I have DDD in lower back, about 4 or 5 discs I believe. I have pain in the lower back but not in the legs. Also have OA in hip joint had 2 injections already. I've now been told I have bursitis on outside of both hips and am booked to have steroid injections into both of these next week.I asked my surgeon about a fusion...He said its to far gone for that!! Spoke to pain clinic and they said they can kill off the nerves in my back with denervation. I've had this done before in 2010.
And to top it all my SI joints are bothering me.
Been reading about SI joint implants, and wanted to know if anyone has any experience of this...or could recommend a surgeon who could at least diagnose and treat it. I appreciate there's a lot going on in my lower back hip area, to be honest I just want the pain to stop. Tried Tramadol and garberpentin but completely spaced out and sleep all the time!! Any advice would be appreciated. I'm 53 and off sick from work at the moment.

I too had tramadol and it doesn't help with real pain, so perhaps getting your pain relief is the first thing that needs to be done. Morphine in low doses might be an option if the pain is unbearable. The spinal blocks work really well, my brother has them and they are completely brilliant and should work.
Secondly you need an xray and MRI scan before you can decide whether a hip replacement is truly neccessary. Have you had these done? If not, these need to be booked so they can check.
I am not sure where you live in order for recommendations, but I am sure someone could help if you post the area and country you live in.
I know pain makes you feel crazy and anxious, but a calm and careful approach to your treatment is needed. I think you have everything lined up except the pain relief...go back to the dr and ask for something stronger and more capable of working. Good luck and let us all know how you are.
Good morning Sue .. I am so sorry that you are in so much pain - I agree with Rose's response - have they taken xrays ? doesn't sound like you are being supported - did they give you any options, course of treatment,in addition of the steriod injections? pain is such a lonely experience, isn't it ... so come back here and share okay? don't lose heart and have faith ... take care - big hug
Hi Sue I feel for you having prolaps disks in my lower back my self but the surgeon said that he could not operate I also have had denervation which did not work I do have 7 facet joints injections every 6 months which helps Like you i am on tramadol etc but when both my hips went last Oct I was in agony,I was put on morphine patches which helped a lot, I have had one THR and I will have the other one done in July but since I had the first one done I have found that these 20mg patches do help my back as well so I would ask your Dr he may put you on them.
Good Luck Ron
Hi Ron,
Thanks for replying to me! I know they said I'm to young for hip replacement 53? Yet my cousin had hers done this year and she's only 2 years older than me!
Will have injections into both hips outer (bursitus) then maybe back nerve denervation after that. It's really stopping me getting out and about like before. I will speak to my doc about the patches though.
Thanks a million for your advice.
Good luck to you to.
Sue
Hi Sue I would think that there is another reason than for not doing a THR than being to young, I have friends that had thiers done in there 30s perhaps you could ask your Dr again for a better reason than your age, the reason I say this Ihad a great deal of trouble with my GP a few years ago nothing to do with hips but for new drugs etc he was telling me that although my consultant at hospital had perscribed them my GP told me that my area health authority had not passed them but they had he did not wan to perscribe them due to cost, not saying that your Dr is doing that its just that to me age should not be a problem.
Hope You get help soon
Ron
