2 years ago I was diagnosed with HSV-2 after having what appeared to be an outbreak. I took meds for it for 3 weeks and it wouldn't go away until I was put on valtrex. I take it every day now for the past two years. That was the only outbreak I have ever had. And to top it off, all three of my partners have tested negative. I have been going around in circles for 2 years wondering how i could possibly have gotten it. My recent ex, who i had unprotected sex with a lot also tested negative. Could I have been misdiagnosed?
Simple! Retest. Do the IgG antibody test, not IgM, and you can find out. But go off the meds for at least a week first.
Alternatively, ask for your results from two years ago. How were you diagnosed? If by test, which test, and what were your results?
As for the three guys, which tests did they do? Did you see their results? The wrong test may miss hsv2 infection.
I have been off of the valtrex before for two weeks because there was a delay in getting my prescription filled and I didn't have an outbreak. All of my exes were tested via a blood test. I was tested with a swab but never a blood test. I read that swab tests can be wrong but not likely. Just very confused as to how I could get this.
If you were confirmed by swab, then it is unlikely to be false. You can reconfirm by IgG after going off the meds for a week minimum. There are a few blood tests out there. If your exes did the wrong one (e.g., IgM, PCR blood), then they may test negative. Also, if they tested too soon after infection themselves.
