Can an eye doctor detect or see any abnormalities for anything to do with the brain from an eye exam?
I have read sometimes they are the first to detect things like tumors due to intracranial pressure. They can also see the optic nerve and if there are blood vessel issues with the eye or signs of trauma.
Yes. Brain tumours are often picked up by optometrists before the tumour causes any other symptoms.

I cannot comment on the brain BUT I can say without doubt that an examination of the eye iris ( I think that's the bit of the eye) can detect ailments with other parts of the body. In my case one was the heart ( I was later diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia) and it detected that my blood sugar level was approaching pre diabetes.

How did it detect something for your heart?
Its called "iris mapping" and theres all sorts of info online if you search for it. The coloured circle of tissue at the front of the eye[the iris] is supposed to be a map of your bodily parts and by studying the patterns in the iris,some people claim to be able to tell you what is going wrong with any part of the body. Some medics will agree but others will disagree.
I just looked it up that is fascinating.
I am not sure, but I believe the iris conveys different patterns, shades, images etc which to an optician means different things. Bit like a code I suppose.
