I have been diagnosed as having Grade 1 hemorrhoids, and it has been suggested I may be treated by having them binded. Has anyone else had experience of this and what does it involve ? I have already had a sigmoidoscopy and am awaiting further results from that. Original diagnosis was from initial consultation. Thanks for any help.
Hi there!
I had mine removed with THD, it is not exactly binding but very similar. It's a minimal invase surgery and interrupts the blood flow to to the main artery of the hemorrhoid. I can tell you that it is not a big deal. I went home the same the and felt almost normal after 10 days, the pain isn't too bad. But I have to say that I find unusual that they advise you to have them binded...at stage 1 I thought they try it with diet change, creams, suppositories aso. first?
It is when i had my sigmoidoscopy about 3-4 years ago that i found out i had enlarged hemorrhoids, which i already knew due occasional flareups and bleeding. I do not know about grades, no one never mentioned it to me. I automatically added lots of fibers in my diet which has really helped since with me, hard bowels cause blood and that terrifies me. The high fiber diet seems to work for me. Can't tell u anything abt grade 1 though...
So what is THD ? Binding has only been suggested at the initial consultation. Still awaiting results of sigmoidoscopy.
Thanks Kale. I have started to add more fibre too, but my problem is loose stools.
Thd is a minimally invasive procedure that ties off the arterial blood flow. It basically makes the hemorrhoids shrink instead of removing tissue but I really think it's only from stage 2. I'm no doctor and can't explain it very well. Sorry! But just google thd uk if you want to know more or ask your doctor. He can also tell you immediately if it would be an option for you or not.
