So I’m on night two after my hemmariod surgery, I’m in absolute agony and cannot sleep! I can’t take any more medication as I’ve had the limit for today... does anyone have any tips? the GP or hospital never said the recovery would be this painful... I’m currently in my lounge having a tea as I cannot sleep, laying down seems to aggravate the wound more... any tips and advice on reducing pain would be great and also how long before you felt ease of pain from this surgery.
Thanks in advance!
Kai
Try an ice pack. Sit on it
It will give you more localised pain relief
It gets better. Hang in there
Ok I will try that now, it’s woke me up in pain again. Thank you.
The only brief relief for me was the sitz baths, every time the pain felt too much I’d sit in the warm water for 15 mins. Nobody warns you about the extent of the pain, I guess because nobody would go ahead with it if they did. It will get better though I promise and you have to hang on to that. I started feeling human around day 12, but you will have periods before that, for me from day 6/7 where it was one step forward and two back. It’s a brutal op, that’s for sure. Hang in there, it does get better.
Thank you for your reply, is the Sitz bath just warm water or with salt? They really don’t, I thought I’d be in hospital with pain like this! I’m hanging on to hope that it will get better just feels like it won’t but time is a healer..
Sorry I was probably misleading when I said the warm water gave relief I meant they took me from an 11/10 to a 10.5/10 for a few minutes and stopped me from howling. I too felt I should be in hospital, but by that stage I couldn have got in the car and certainly couldn’t have been examined. In desperation,, over the phone, my gp gave me Oramorph a liquid version of morphine and even that didn’t touch the pain. I also had diazepam, which helped with the anxiety. I’m sorry but it was for me just counting hours and days and nights until it was still painful, but bearable. It will come, I promise, however bad it is now, you will feel better. I wish I could help more.
Hi, hope your feeling better. Drink plenty of water and have a high fibre diet. Do not force the BM, the water and high fibre diet should make your BM easier. I was give fybogel and lactulose to take for the BM. Pain I had paracetamol and dihydrocodeine for the pain.
