Hemorrhoid surgery recovery experiences

First and foremost, thank you to those who had posted their experiences on here.  I was hopeless until I found this site and read different stories. So I promised myself once I feel a little better I will share my experiences for those that come after.

I had my hemorrhoidectomy last Thursday and it's been 8 days post op.  I had 2 large external hemorrhoids that was removed, didn't ask if there's any banding after surgery.

IT IS PAINFUL I KNOW but it will PASS and you will be OKAY.  I am no where recovered but I am better today than I was 4 days ago. There's light at the end of the tunnel.  Through my experiences I hope some of you will find some tips that'll help.

1. First day was easy. Surgery itself took about an hour but the prep and recover times take up your whole day. Woke up in the recover room with the surgeon and nurse. I had to vomit a few times, which will hurt the best day. Went home and slept the rest of the day.

2. Second day was not as bad. I was still tired from the day prior so I slept a lot which helps with the pain. I took Tylenol and Ducolax as directed. Didn't take any oxycodone since I didn't need it.

3. Third day was one of the worst. Woke up around very early due to the pain and not only does my anus hurts, 'my entire body is in pain. I can't even roll over in bed, and I crawl to the restroom. Can't eat and the worst part is here.  I felt like I need to have a BM but couldn't. I went in and out of the restroom in pain for about 10 times. Yes,   I cried and wish I hadn't eaten anything. I wish I had never went through with the surgery.

4. The pain and discomfort continues. I hadn't slept or eaten for 2 days satraight and Oxycodone is not working. This is the most excruciating pain I've never experienced. I curse everything I can think of.

5. Yup, still in hell. I went in and out of bathtub probably 10 times in a day hoping something would happen. Each BM I can only release a small portion.  I cried and bite down on a towel trying to release whatever I can. Now, I know I'm not suppose to strain it but hell with it, I am about to die. Made some progress but still not much.

6. Still no food and sleeps I'm about to go to the ER when finally a sudden urge came as I ran to the bathroom. Yup, the best is released and I think I over did Ducolax. It is the best feeling ever and I was able to rest that day. I was able to sleep straight for a few hours.

7. My morning routine started with a fast BM and bathtub. I was able to walk for a bit and ate a few thing. I only take ibuprofen now.

8. Today, was not as easy as yesterday. I think bcuz I ate. The entire day has been difficult as I have to make a lot of bathroom trip. But now I'm ok lying in bed writing this.

I don't know what tomorrow will be like but I think I am starting to get the hang of it. These are what helps me through. Sitz Bath is a must. Do it as many times as you want. My advice is to do it before and after each BM. You'll thank me. Stays in as long as you want. I also learned that using handheld for the back side helps release the burns and pain super fast. Don't use paper towel.

Drink lots of water, prune juice and prunes. Eat very little until you get the hang of your BM. What comes in must comes out.  I remind myself that before I eat anything. Trust me.

Keep the area clean to avoid infections. Doctor gave me lidocaine and it helps. Talk it through with your doctor.

When I am not in the bath tub I use a hot towel and it helps tremendously. Try it.

I hope this post will help someone through this terrifying experience. I know it helped me a lot. We will all get through this together. One day at a time!
