Hemorrhoidectomy

I have a big extrenal thrombosed hemorrhoid (size of a grape)I would say grade 3 or 4. Tried everything that is usually recommended and also every treatment my GP prescribed, nothing’s worked. I went to a&e and had it lanced but it did nothing at all. I am seeing a colorectal specialist later this week for a first consultation, I’m an NHS patient but it’s in a private clinic (referred by my GP). This problem is really affecting me not just physically but emotionally, mainly as I haven’t been able to have sex with my partner due to embarrassment and he is wondering why but I cannot tell him, I worry he will leave if I don’t get this problem fixed ASAP. I am really hoping to be offered surgery, ideally hemorrhoidectomy as I can’t see any other treatment working. My question is this: is it likely they will offer me surgery and how long will I wait between my first consultation and the surgery if I am offered it? How long did you wait? Thank you

I had the surgery 2 days after consult. I am female and will not be having sex for a long time because it is in bad shape now. No way no how for weeks!!!!  I’m 10 days post surgery and having awful pain still.

Thank you for your reply. Are you in the U.K. and what type of hemorrhoid did you have? Was the surgery offered to you or did you have to ask? How did your surgery go? In bad shape how?

Hi, I’m in the uk and the same as you was referred by gp to private clinic. I had a colonoscopy first with banding (which didn’t work) 6 weeks later at check up which was 9th May i was told I needed surgery and I had it done on 22nd May (last week).

Were yours internal? Mine is external and thrombosed so I doubt banding will be an option for me?

I am in the US. I had a large thrombosed external removed and a skin tag from a huge thrombosed one I had lanced 7 years ago.  It left an huge skin tag that was hard to clean up around. Awful. I’m not sure if my pain and swelling is from that. If you only have one it might not be as bad. I’m currently icing the area in pain. I am out of work 2 weeks and not sure I’ll be able to go back in time.

And the surgery was offered right away. It went really good. I am having issues after.

I’m sorry to hear you are in pain. I am not scared of surgery or pain if it means getting rid of this as it is very painful, very noticeable and I have no sex life as a result. Let’s keep in touch. Get well soon

Hii im from the uk and went to see a surgeon 2 weeksago as mine have made me serverly anemic he offered the operation straight away but has given me 2 weeks to make my mi d up on which one to have. Mine are internal so cant band them i am thinking of having thd thd operation doesnt sou d as bad as the big one although thats what he wants me to have. I also have been sent to a private clinic. Good luck

I had both so it was worth a try.

Alizee....how long have you had yours?  I developed two ETH in late January.  One bled by itself and healed in three weeks. The other is still around after 4 months!  I have seen my PCP once and colo rectal doc twice.  They said no surgery as second hem is very small and resolving.  I STILL have issues sitting for long periods of time.  I am trying not to think about it but it is hard not to.  It is bettter than before but after four months this should be gone!

Go ahead and be straight up with your partner because surgery is very painful and it's almost impossible to sit down for several days.

I do not live it here my partner so I have the option to not see him for a week or two until most of the post operative pain has gone. How long did you wait to have sex again after surgery?

Hi Jimmy I’ve had mine for weeks and they tried everything, no sign of improvement. I’m going to beg the colorectal specialist for an op as I cannot stay like this any longer. My biggest issue is the fact I cannot be intimate with my partner and if I don’t get this problem fixed ASAP I will lose him.

Did you have the colonoscopy and banding at your first consultation or had to go back for that? If so how long did you wait between both appointments? Thank you

Hi good luck with the op! Did the surgeon say how long you would have to wait for it? Thank you

No I had consultation 5 April banding 9th April. Then checkup for banding  9th May was told then that banding hasn’t work so had on 22nd May. So all quite fast.

Thanks for your reply Anita x

When you go to the toilet now do you sit on the seat to go? I have found standing over the toilet with my hand on my Knees really helps and it stop the straining with dosent help with the pile!! Also try and take so movical it very good.

Thanks for the tips. I’m seeing the colorectal specialist on Friday and really hoping they will offer me surgery. I don’t think banding will work as have very large thrombosed and external. I just want this problem sorted ASAP, just hoping the specialist will be understanding and helpful
