Hi Tej,
Sorry to hear that. I think Im in same situation as you are, Im 6 weeks post op. But still experiencing same issues, swelling around my anus, which hinders stool passage.
You mentioned that you may have to go for rafaelo again, which Im also considering. I still have faith in the system
Pls let me knw your final decision on this,.
Thanks
Hi
The post recovery information is very misleading. They should change it. I had my procedure a week prior to Christmas and it really has been a rotten couple of weeks. I’ve had a previous operation so knew what to expect but it still doesn’t make it any less painful. It will get better!
Hi,
I am so glad that I found this thread. I had this treatment a year ago in December, and I am still having issues. It is definitely not what they advertise as quick and pain free. After the treatment I experienced extreme pain but I thought this was down to the fact that during child birth there had been trauma to the area and so I was just taking longer to recover due to this. I even thought the haemorrhoids had come back but my nurse said it looked like skin tags and that scar tissue had formed. Due to the fact I had to travel for this treatment I have never had a follow up with the Doctor that performed the surgery, I emailed him a few times about the pain I was experiencing, that there were lumps there and that the nurse had said there might be scar tissue. But he was always dismissive and said there was no scarring and to keep taking laxatives to help with BM. I am still experiencing pain at BM, like a stinging or burning sensation, I still have to take laxatives, The nurse had suggested it might be that the scar tissue doesn’t stretch and this is the problem. I have gone back to my local GP and have been referred to a specialist, just waiting on the appointment date. I thought for a time there my symptoms were getting better as it still hurt at BM but the pain did not last as long afterwards but symptoms seem to have gotten worse again. Like someone previously said I had this treatment last year just before Christmas, and I totally ruined my time. I think there needs to be more said bout these negative side effects and it not be brushed away as i feel they are still experimenting with this new procedure.
hi everyone
this forum has been so useful as had no real aftercare advice after the rafaelo, i had it done 14th dec fortunately not too many after effects, however still having bleeding which settled a few days after the procedure but has since started again, is this normal does anyone else experience this? i also had 3 large polyps which the consultant said he treated using the same procedure has anyone else had this?
look forward to hearing for you
many thanks
Hi all,
I had it last year end of July. It was really painful for three weeks after treatment but it was worth doing it. I have skin tags but they are shrinking gradually. I am relieved having tiered of steroid injections of NHS treatment. It requires changes in your eating habits. Avoid cheese and milk. I think the promise has been delivered. I hope it works for you guys. The pain has to be highlighted for those of you who are planning to do it.
Thanks
for their business surgeons lie easily… 1 to 2 weeks recovery, minimum pain, and so on… otherwise nobody trust them to pay… the fact!
Sorry to hear this. I agree the marketing makes it sound better than it is. But I have had good results and am really grateful to have my life back. Had the Rafaelo nearly a year ago (March 2018). I have a skin tag which is annoying to keep clean after BM but so much better than hems. I still think it worth having especially if you have insurance or can get it on the NHS. You only have to look at the haemorrhoidectomy message threads to see how much better Rafaelo is. And I assume mainly people who have had bad experiences or are anxious will post here (I am the anxious sort!). I would recommend it over living with hems.
I hope your situation improves. It doesn’t sound like your surgeon has been the most understanding. Good luck.
Had 3 grade 3 treated on the 11th Jan. Here is my experience to date:
Throughout I have only taken paracetamol and ibuprofen, alongside 1-4 laxatives per day and normal fibre granules supplement.
Days 1 – 3: Little to no pain, and a smooth feeling backside.
Day 4: Began to feel a pressure and a swelling sensation around 11 o’clock position.
Day 7: Pain ramps up to a 5/10 and a fleshy lump emerges at the 11 o’clock position.
Day 8-9: Pain increases to 6-8/10. Aforementioned lump increases in size and swelling beneath is evident, with area hard to touch in a similar way to internal piles.
Day 10-13: Same as above, however, the pre-existing skin tag at the 5 o’clock position also swelled, increasing in size and appearing irritated (red-ish).
Day 14-16 – Disappointingly, given my strict diet and watering regime, I was constipated. Had many unsuccessful visits to the toilet as I refused to push.
Pain as above throughout. Eventually had a bowl movement on day 16. Feel internally swollen and the two external lumps described above are at their largest (large pea sized).
Day 17 – Pain significantly decreases back to 2-3/10. Lumps at 5 and 11 o’clock remain. Internal swelling feeling underneath 11 o’clock remains but is less.
Day 18-19 – Dropped pain killers down to 2 doses per day. Windows of no pain. However, internal swelling feeling still present, but about 50% of what it was. The two lumps also appear to have shrunk to about half of their maximum. Slight aches on right hand side in roughly the same place as reported before procedure, but not as bad. Strange, random pangs of pain.
Day 20 – No pain killers. Still taking laxatives. Swelling feeling at 11 o’clock slightly increases after less that soft bowl movement. Pain back to regular 2-3/10.
Hoping this is all ‘normla’ and not a sign of more or the same hems.
Hello guys,
Just want to inform you that i went in for rafaelo the 2nd time, and Im seeing trememdious changes. great improvement on daily baisis.
first few days i had this swelling close to my anus, it wont go in, it was jus hanging there making me very uncomfortable and painful as well.
After 1st week the swelling has started reducing, bowel movement was great, feeling like a new born already. Im in day 11 presently so far so good. I will keep you posted with my experience.
Thanks
Frank - thanks for the update, please can you keep us informed on your progress.
I ask as I am now 5 weeks out from my op and I am not entirely satisfied. Don’t get me wrong, things are way better than before but not all gone. I feel / think I can see that I still have 2 internal hems. Which is depressing as hell.
The Doc said we can check again at 3 months and discuss options. So if a 2nd go is working for you I would be interested to hear.
All the best,
Hi everyone. This is so helpful, i had my surgery last feb. 5 and was having a hard time with BM. A week after my surgery i started to notice the lumps and it was so irritating. Feels like i am back to square 1. At day 10 PO, i started to bleed every after each BM. It feels like something is tearing from the inside everytime i try to pass. Then, the swelling starts abd i can not complete BM due to pain and bleeding. I ask my surgeon bout this and he just gave me medication to stop the bleeding. I took the med for about 3 days now and still no improvement at all. Like all of you i no longer know what is normal and what isn’t. I am planning to visit my surgeon tomorrow.
so i had this proceedure 2 days ago, with full colonscopy in Brighton. absolutely no pain after, in fact i joked with family that i dont feel like iv had anything done, no bleeding, nothing. feel like i need a bm but not alot really comes out. scared to strain. everything is protruding out of anus the same as was before the op. Also have a rectocele so that may be causing the probs. what did you all take to keep bm soft and regular? how can you keep spotlessly clean when you cant fully go. Using bidet/shower but so scared of infection risk.
Eat lots of fibre..and drink atleast 2l of water..if does not help take Movicol aswell
Hi Frank…I am going in for second time…Did your treatment work out finally - all swelling gone now.
19 days post proceedure and still having slight bleed on BM. Doing best to keep regular but still feels like lumps are down there. Never had any pain throughout this whole thing. When I need to go feels more urgent now and uncomfortable. I don’t think much has improved tbh. No follow up appointment yet, but so far I feel that nothing much has been done. Haem are not swollen and haematosed out, but all very lumpy and still bulging from that area, so unsure whether they are gone or will get painful again at some point. Certainly isn’t what is advertised for this “brilliant lifechanging” proceedure.
Hi Frank…I got the rafaello done 2nd time aswell…swelling is still there 2nd day today…how is it going with you now.
Did you consult your doctor…whats was his advise…please reply…I am very down..
Hi Naj - Have you complete recovered now?
hi tej, Im about 12 weeks after the 2nd procedure, truth is that im still having this lump close to my anus, that partialy blocks passage of stool, I dont knw what else to do, surgery is not an option for me, Im still hopeful to find something to end this. For now I would say the rafaelo was not sucessful with me. Thanks
Hi Frank…I am 2 weeks down with 2nd procedure…I guess its not worked for me aswell. I am back to Square1 with the lump post BM…last option before surgery is trying banding… As I too don’t want to surgery route.
Did you consult your Dr.. what did he suggest?
Regards..
hi Tej, I didnt bother going back to my doc. Just looking for alternative means, meanwhile, do let me know when you go for the banding. We will all scale through. Amen..Thanks.
