Here are my results from a recent spiromitory test

Hi all I've had a spiromitory test done at my local hospital, never seen this test type before , it tested everything oxygen from the lungs is average so that's  good , I'm hope you can see the photo I have attached, could you please give me your opinion, to me it all looks towards the low of normal the only thing is the fev1 at 78% should be 80%, seems on the low side , but why would all the other % be so good

Okay paul I pulled out my Spirometry test that I had just two weeks ago and your numbers are better than mine My FEV 1 = 72% before the inhaler and = 59% after the inhaler does your paper give your Lung Age mine says my Lung age is 75 yrs old now my report says yes I have COPD but its mild so my doctor says I am between Stage one and Stage two..  I would venture to say your only in stage one at a mild copd your air intake is way better than mine I can only get it to the number 3 line no higher so your test looks like your just getting started my next step is the lung specialist the hard part is getting the appt. Your FVC is 92% mine is 81% and 76% after my inhaler so looks like I have not been matched to the right inhaler.

Your FEV1 is nothing to worry about--unless your a smoker.  The fact that it is slightly low could indicate you are proned to getting worse.  But if you take care of yourself you should live a long healthy life.  My FEV1 was 49 last time it was checked and I am still very active.

I am 53 almost 54.  I was diagnosed with severe COPD almost 6 years ago now.  I am a general contractor who works full time in a physically demanding career.  When I avoid irritating my lungs I wouldn't even know I have lung disease.  But when I am exposed to smoke, certain chemicals, or illness my lungs get inflammed and my chest gets really tight.  So far my oxygen levels stay in mid 90's.  But my pulmo says to expect the need for oxygen in the next 10 to 15 years--all depending on how well I take care of my lungs.  Everybody is different with this disease.  My doctors favorite word is Asymptomatic--they treat the symptoms.  Its up to you to protect them lungs and keep them from getting worse.  You cant stop the progression--but you can slow it wayyyyy down.  At your level you have enough lung to live your full lifespan and probably never need oxygen--your lucky!

im 49 this year but looking at my resualts do you think it may be COPD or asthma my dad suffered with this. He's now gone,he was 74 .

Hi all 

Well I seen my consoltent yesterday, and got the news we all dread,that I was at the first stage of Copd , mild in the uk. I was not give any medication and was told to forget about it for now, he did say look after myself IE no smoking, eat well , exercise , etc etc.

its bad I know, but could have been realy realy bad new.

look after yourselfs I will keep an eye on the fourm .

So it's good news for me, well it could have been a lot worst

One more thing , he said my gas exchange was on the low side of normal.

so you can compare you readings to mine as a guide
