Here to provide some hope and encouragement

I started taking 20 MG of Fluoxeitine almost one year ago.

It was an awful journey and I was on this forum nonstop, reading everyone's posts about their experiences wondering if ever a day would come where I could help someone or make them feel better.

I had anxiety and felt sick all the time. Afraid of something bad happening. I finally began to take the medicine and I would say I felt better after 2 months. After that it was still very up and down but it only got better. I am still taking the same dosage and will consider coming off of it at some point.

I recently went through what you can call a crisis of life and still dealing with a lot of stress. However, I feel that due to taking the meds, it immensely helped me deal with a lot of the things i dealt with.

So if anyone out here is discouraged, or wondering if it doesn't help, trust me it gets better but it takes time.

Katecogs, Lucy, Craig, you guys were very helpful to me and I hope you're well and see this post.

Thank you.

Thanks for the encouraging post

Thank you so much just feel horrible right now I really am trying so hard not easy being alone with 2 kids constantly nervous feeling in my tum anxiety is awful not sleeping properly and feel like I want to vomit all the time my pharmacy told me to try original brand to see if it eases side effects so waiting for that to be delivered today hoping that will help

Pinkrozez, I am in the bed as I write this and can hardly use the key pad. Everyday I think of stopping as the side effects are awful.; anxiety, feel sick, stomachache, some diarrhea .

This has been going on for 4 months as I started with 5 mg and now have been on 20mg for 1 month.

Thank you so much for coming back to encourage  and give us a since of hope.

Jane, by original brand, do you mean the original “Prozac”?  I am in the US and that is what it is called here.

Take care.

Yes I mean Prozac I would never of known there was a difference but apparently there is and funny thing is I been on fluxotine years ago but don't recall them being in capsule form all my antidepressants have been tablets not capsules if that makes sense and thanks for replying

Have you asked your gp for something else to help relax you like a beta blocker I'm on a beta blocker which is not doing anything but I was also given diazipan but that only takes a slight edge off as they are only 2mg it's awful isn't it feel like someone to nock me out till meds kick in

He has mentioned a beta blocker and sent me to cardiologist to discuss. The psych doctor thought that I should discontinue  another med as that could be causing  some of these side effects   The cardiologist did not agree. I do take .25 of Clonozopam up to 3 times a day for anxiety a side effect    I didn’t have anxiety before taking AD. The Clonazapam does almost nothing.  The psych dr won’t give me Zanax  as it is addictive.

Yes, this is the worst thing I have ever been through because of the duration and intensity. It’s so tempting to stop , but I have so much time invested.

I don’t know how you manage with young children.

I am going to ask the pharmacist if Prozac rather than  Fluoxetine  would make a difference

I took this 18 years ago after a health scare. It worked in 2 weeks and not one side effect.

Jane, take care. I wish I could help you. I’ll let you you know if I get better.

Jane, I started on Prozac years ago, but Eli Lilly lost the patent. Then other drug companies started making genetics. My insurance company will pay for the Fluoxetine  but probably not the Prozac which is probably a lot more expensive. I will check into it.

I have a friend who can not take any generic because of the fillers.

Good luck.

It's so tough Nancy but it might be a idea to get the original Prozac rather than the what I call copy drug coz there cheaper I'm waiting for my prescription to be delivered because like you I too was on this years ago and not remember the side effects being so bad it's not helped I tried 2 other AD before this so this has been going on a while I'm just going to have to push through because I'm not doing this all over again I'm literally just about hanging on it's like torture hope your ok lovely sounds like you been unwell similar amount of time as me so I know how difficult it is but we will get through this because there is no other option if ya need a chat I'm here Hun

Wow just goes to show there really can be a difference between the 2 and yet because of price people are suffering it's a disgrace thankfully I'm in a position where I get free prescriptions but if I had to pay I would with no doubt carnt put a price on your health my lad is 13 and has cystic fibrosis and there is a new drug which is proven to help yet government won't fund it it's a absolute disgrace

Thanks Jane.  Please let me know you get along.  I will say I get some relief around 8 pm and don’t have  a problem sleeping.

I started taking AD last. May. I tried  5 of them over a 7 week period. Then I started Olanzapine for 3  months. I don’t have the words to express how bad that was. As bad as I feel, I think I just have to tough it out. So onward and hopefully upward.

I went on iTunes and downloaded nature sounds and “take a vacation’’.

They were slightly helpful.

Oh you do have your hands full. I do hope you have good support.

I just checked out ProzC on google. It says around $1,500 for 100 pill. I would do it too if I thought it would hep. The FDA is not supposed to approve the generic unless it’s the same. I’ll do some more research. My psych teaches at a local med school. I’ll be sure to ask him this question when I see him next.

Have you googled “timeline for Flouxetine?  On that page there is an interesting thread  with many contributors.

Omg didn't realise how expensive that drug would be how horrendous no one would be able to afford that unless your a bloody footballer see how you go ya might need to change over meds but give it time like you said you have invested so much time I feel pretty much the same horrible dilemma to be in

I have been on Fluoxetine for anxiety for 18 weeks today - It has been a very difficult time - I went on it because I had terrible anxiety for months before which was not abating - I do despair at times - I had a better week or two a while ago but now very intense again - I wake with awful feelings at 4am every night and then get terrible headaches and aches - I know I need to learn to forget about it and I do try to live my normal life going to work etc but the headaches step up and it is hard to ignore them which sets off the adrenaline again - I took fluoxetine once before for a year and it took a long time to work I mean about a year - I am trying to be positive this will work for me again - anyone else have similar experience

Jane is Prozac the original drip and fluoxetin a different brand. My GP wants me to go on 20mg after I came of sertraline

Tablet playing up. I was on Setraline for a short time and got dreadful side effects so refused to take it anymore, but now my GP wants me to go on fluoxetin. I'm worried because it's from the same group of drugs. Is Prozac the original drug and fluoxetin a different brand? Should I ask him to prescribe Prozac and at a lower start dose than 20mg?

yes I have been trying to get off Prozac but my PCP put me back on it because the withdrawal has been awful.  I feel hopeless and in a complete despair.  I'm on 10mg daily for the next week then take 10mg every other day.  The morning vomit sessions are unbelievable.  I just wish all this would go away.

Please let me know if Prozac works better for you. I hope it does.

Sertralin and fluxotine are part of same family of drug but slight differences in make up so I would give it a go Hun how long did you stick with sertralin for ?
