Here we go again......

So, I had my consultation today, and my surgeon confirmed what I already knew, that my un-operated knee is totally shot, in a far worse condition that the first one was in pre-op! So its a second TKR for me - if I hadn't got a big holiday booked at teh end of September, he would have whipped me in within a few weeks. eek

So Im looking at my pre-op in the middle of October, and surgery within 2 or 3 weeks after that!

At least I know what Im letting myself in for - although I dont know if thats a good thing or not!

You are more prepared for the second one, although no two ops/knees are the same. It is better that you have both replacements close together. It don't regret either of mine.

Best Wishes.

I think on the whole it's better to know!  I was completely unprepared physically and mentally . .it all happened so quickly and my relatives who had had the op before me lied through their teeth saying it was 'nowhere near as bad as you would expect' only to say once I was lying in hopsital cursing the day I was born 'Oh well, didn't want to tell you what it was really like. .. '    And as everyone says, every knee is different. Your second one may be much easier!

Enjoy your holiday, try doing as many of the pre exercises as possible this willhelp you afterwards.  You know we are all here for you.

terry i know its hard knowing it all and going back to the beginng .i myself am after revision now 11mths ago and doing ok its a long slog to get here i thought i was being smart by having a bi lateral to make sure id get it over in one go but unfortunatly it didnt work out that way for me as one was a mess and i had to face it again  so i know how you feel but the body is stronger than you think plus we have no other choice .    enjoy your holiday but keep the excersises going it did help to do them

Hi terri I am the same as you have got a lot of pain I my other knee going on holiday in September and have got an appointment to see the consultant on 13th November for x rays then hopefully be put on the list for surgery

PollyBB - why do you say it is better to have both close together. I'm 5 weeks post TKR and the doctor said 3 months for the 2nd. I'm really hesitant at this stage - still very much in the recovery phase and doubting it was a good decision to have the first done - I was thinking I might wait 12 months for the 2nd and am interested in why you say to have them close together. Thanks.

You have to do what you have to do.

I had TKR 3 years ago and if my other knee got to that stage I would go through it all again.

Have a ggod holiday.

Take care and keep in
