hernia op

how long after a bowel resection can i have an op for this very large hernia getting bigger by the minute sore and mentally upsetting

Often they make you wait 3 months between surgeries to allow the 1st surgery to heal properly.  However, it's best to get the ball in motion as there's bound to be a waiting list anyway x

thanks lesley lesley l

thanks lesley went to see my surgeon last weekabout hernia because my wound was slow healing just about healed now he told mevto come back 23rd october as i am in a lot of discomfort and getting bigger by the minute  it means i just see him in october and wont get operation for say 2months down the road that makes it 8months since op wasdone do you think i should phone his secretary to get a qhicker appointment as my nurse has told me they have finished dressing my wound as it now appears to be healed

Yes, they are a real nuisance! I was told that I would have to wait up to 5 months from the consultation to surgery and I had to wait quite a while for the consultation itself. I find wearing a corset helps a lot. The hospital supplied a Velcro adjustable type and I also found an elasticated one in a magazine! My hernia is a large bulge about two inches above my navel. Good luck!

It's worth a try.  I was referred to a consultant at the end of March and only saw him 4 weeks ago.  I'm still not on the waiting list for surgery even though my hernia is painful and I've had to take time off work.  I'm to have a scan on Saturday before going on the list!

There is an 18 week guideline in the NHS for treatment.  It states that you should not wait longer than 18 weeks between GP referral and treatment (surgery in our cases).  I have been told that this doesn't apply in my case as my hernia is a complication of surgery they did last year but it might be worth mentioning it in your case.
