Hello, I've recently been in a situation where I could have been exposed to herpes and have shown some symptoms. I'd like to get a IGG blood test but GP/GUM won't allow it so have to seek private. There are a few online sites offering tests either home kits that are a fingerprick sample or clinic visits for a blood sample, the question I have is how accuarate would a fingerprick test be?
Has anyone used a private UK clinic that they'd recommend?
Thanks
Fingerprick test is only for HSV2, I believe, and is not so commonly used. Reliability depends on the test kit brand. If you have lesions, it's better and most accurate to get them swabbed asap. GUM clinics will swab, though they won't do IgG testing.
There are no lesions so cannot swab.
The blood tests are advertised as 'it will be able to distinguish between Herpes type 1 and Herpes type 2', and 'We will send you a self-collection kit whereby you take a small sample of blood via a finger prick.' So according to this it does both but not sure whether to believe it or not, there are a couple others offering similar fingerprick blood tests however there are more expensive full blood sample tests
