I have HSV1 orally. I know this because I have been getting cold sores since a child, therefore if I go and get the blood tested I know that it will come up positive and a old infection. I have had a scare of getting HSV1 on my genitals from a possible oral sex accident as well and I was wondering how am I too get tested for it if I do not get an outbreak or may have already had one and not noticed. Will my results say there is a new infection as well as the old infection? I am confused as to how I can go get checked if I wont be able to tell if I have it genitally as well? I want to have sex with my new boyfriend but I am scared and have too much anxiety, therefore I thought getting blood test would help give me my answer yet I do not even think they will be able to truly tell unless I have a outbreak or not.
Have you ever had a genital outbreak? If yes, then wait till they appear again to get tested. Or do a herpes blood test, if you were recently exposed the IgM will be positive but if you were exposed more than 3months ago the IgG will test positive too.
