Just wondering yalls experiences with hsv2 testing. I had a single blister show up 10 days after unprotected sex. got a pcr swab on second and fourth day of blister. neither doctor opened up blister but rubbed all over blister and surrounding skin (is this good enough for pcr testing??) the blister then changed to small bump. got this nuswab on the 10th total day since blister originated. all were negative but im worried about how reliable this is since the blister was never opened during the swabs. i had blood test at 20 days post-exposure which i know was probably too soon but it was negative as well
wait till 16 weeks and do blood test
so you wouldnt trust the pcr?
i was just going to say that too. BLOOD TEST will show it
her circumstances are different she didnt have an open sore so there was no fluid taken from it which could give a negative result even if she still has it just rubbing the swab over a sealed spot of blister is not enough it has to be open with fluid present ideally to pick up an accurate result
thought someone else posted
no wouldnt trust if they just swabbed a sealed spot go bck get a blood test at 12/16 weeks
When i was trying to get a diagnosis, I had a false negative swab four days after my symptoms started.
According to the doctor at my clinic the virus is often only present for the first 2-3 days of an outbreak.
I think you are right to view the negative results with suspicion. I suppose all you can do is keep a close eye on the area and get the swab done quickly if anything suspicious shows up.
did you have a blister or any lesions present when they tested you? and was yours pcr or culture?
“did you have a blister or any lesions present when they tested you?”
It’s a couple of years ago but from memory they were already healing. My outbreaks are always pretty mild.
“was yours pcr or culture?” I don’t know what “pcr” stands for. I understand the test is for the presence of viral DNA in the swab sample
