Hi all

I am 3 weeks 3 days post op and doing quite well. My problem is at night and getting comfortable in bed!! I have broken sleep 😴 and suffer restless legs!!! I still take meds like paracetamol and ibuprofen but have tried to cut down to just once in the morning and sometimes evening. I get pain down my right leg sometimes when walking initially then it eases off. I do all the exercises and try to walk at least a mile or 2 every day with the crutches outside. I'm going to start hydrotherapy as soon as possible too! My question is .. when will the pain ease up!!? Hope you are all doing well

Hello Karen,

This is all very normal. I couldnt get comfortable until after the six weeks, once I could turn over and get rid of the surgical stockings! I couldnt sleep much and got very frustrated. stick with it, this time is very important and will pass. I too had pain right down my leg and into my foot but thats gone now. i did worry it was nerve damage but it seems not, thankfully. are you still on blood thinners? Youre doing really well, just grit your teeth and get through this 6 weeks. dont suffer either, take the paracetamol if you need them. Youre doing the right things with exercises and walking, keep going! Sending very best wishes xxx

Hi Karen

It's a pest I had the same and the dreaded restless legs. But as Carol said once the 6 weeks are up and you can get rid of the socks and turn over it does start to settle down. You are halfway there now and doing well! I had codeine and took them at night just to get some sleep. Take whatever pain meds you need they help combat stiffness and keep you exercising. Cutting down on painkillers this early won't help recovery I am terrible hate take by tabs but was strict about it and really does help. 6 months on I don't need any apart from when I have overdone the walking or been on my feet a long time then I just take paracetamol. You will look back I n 6 weeks and be surprised how far you have progressed. Keep smiling

Julie

Hi, you sound as if you're doing well, and as the others have said, sleeping should get better when the 6 weeks are up, and you can start to sleep on your side.

Re meds, don't cut down to soon, there's no point in being in pain. I reduced mine a bit at 2 weeks, but I still took a selection until 4 weeks. All the best, Judith

Hi Karen ,

That all is normal . After 7 weeks I get better. After 6 weeks I stared

hydro therapy and that help . You in 1/2 way . It will get better with time. Do your excersice, rest if you need and take some pain killer if you need.

I have spasm and I got some tablets for musles relaxing it help. Im 7 months and 1 week after replacement and some time I take pain killer if

im to tired mostly my legs. Working in nursing home. Take day at the

time , will get better.

Take care Hug MadlaπŸ’—

Yep, I was the same. I'd suggest you keep on taking the pain killers before bed so you can get more sleep. Your muscles will relax more and you'll feel better. In a few more weeks you can try cutting down again. πŸ›Œ

Karen,

It's very early days yet - I remember well the discomfort of sleeping on my back, and then I had to undergo revision 10 weeks after the THR, so had to go back onto my back again .

In a year's time, you'll look back and wonder what all the fuss was about.  The pain shouldn't last too much longer for you now, and things really do start to get noticably better at around 10 to 12 weeks.  If you keep a diary or blog, it's good to look back at your progress.
