Hi everyone, Does anyone know if 'kelp - seaweed' is goo

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if 'kelp - seaweed' is good for the thyroid? Somebody advised me to take it but I'm unsure as I've only just recently started on Thyroxine.

Secondly, a friend of mine said that if I have an under active thyroid then I would've put on weight. Is this true as I am a very slim person?

Thanks to all that reply.

Hi - My doctor advised me not to take kelp as it interferes with the working of the thyroid. She said that thyroxine was all that was needed to supplement an underactive thyroid. Also, with regard to weight - my friend who has had an underactive thyroid for years has always been slim. You are so lucky not to have problems with your weight. Unfortunately, it appears that the majority of us ladies do have problems with our weight, though I am pleased that my weight seems to have stablised since I have been taking thyroxin. Finding it very difficult to lose the 3 stones that I piled on prior to being diagnosed in January 2006, but thankful that I am feeling so much better. Hope you too will feel better soon - it took me just over six months to start to feel normal again, though some days I did despair as I thought I would never feel well again. Good luck. Linda. :D

Thanks for replying and the advice. I am only on 25mcg for now but had a blood test yesterday and will most likely have an increase soon. Sarah
