Hi first time on here ... looking for help depressed

Had depression 3 yrs ago after marriage break up at the same time as mothers death. I was on citalopram for 9 months I'm 49 and mature student now after a period of exam stress and break up of new relationship about 6 weeks ago seem to have crashed ... was prescribed citalopram but decided I'd do without and flung myself into gym getting out etc didn't work . Now so low Ive decided to take meds started yesterday on citalopram 20mg and feel I'm never going to be happy again ... been sitting on couch all day don't seem to be able to even tidy up ... managed a shower as it was badly needed but that's about it ... just don't want to live anymore but got 2 kids 16 and 20 and couldn't do that to them ... someone please tell me it will get better

Hello.  I am so sorry to hear that you are feeling so sad and down. I get like this a lot myself. You are not alone.  I see that you try to help yourself with exercise.  That is something that I do also....working out can get me out of a depressive funk. I am about your age and would also never harm myself for many reasons...especially because of family.

I was on Celexa for many years.....I had a very rare illness called "Cushing's Disease" that amplified my (already there) depression.

It helped.

Once I was cured from the disease I came off the Celexa, fairly easily.

I went back on after my Dad passed away.  I had been crying every day for a year straight and could not take it anymore.  The Celexa helped me for a long time to get through so many tough times over ten years.

I recently stopped taking Celexa because I felt it was getting toxic.  I also wanted to feel again and to be able to cry.

It was very difficult to stop the drug.

But, I am glad I got through it.  I have some very low moments....so much melancholy, sadness, worry, nostalgia, anxiety.....it gets rough.

I totally relate to you about not being able to do the simplest things like showering or keeping my home tidy.  Life is so complicated and it overwhelms me.

I don't really know what to tell you except that I am praying for you and thinking of you right now.  Just keep breathing and just take baby steps forward every day.  Don't be hard on yourself. You are loved more then you realize.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom's passing.  I am extremely close to my Mom and I know it will be the saddest day of my life if she goes before me.  I cannot even fathom it. It scares me so much that I can't handle the pain sometimes.

I try to thank God for what I do have and I try not to concentrate on what I don't.  There is always someone out there worse off....so much worse off then we are.

I wish you well and I hope you find peace, comfort, and joy in your life.you deserve to be happy.

Oh Dear Not Again,  I am so sorry you are going through this.  It is a most difficult time for sure!!  It is good you are getting out and exercising!  This alone is a very good step!!  There is no shame in taking the meds.  They will help you get through this.  Yes, at first you will have to go through the side effects again, but in the end it will be worth it.  You WILL get through this!!  And you will be all the better for it!!  Stronger too!!  I know being strong for the children can be hard.  But, you can do it.

We are here to help you, and each other through...there are a lot of wonderful people on this forum, with great advice!  I am glad I found it, as they have helped me a lot!  I’ve been on Cital 20 mg, for 3 years, and it’s been good for me.  You hang in there, keep putting one foot in front of the other, continue with the meds, and you will be ok!!  God Bless!  {{{{HUGS}}}}

Thanks karen Ny diedra tracy ... for taking the time to reply ... mears a lot I just can't seem to function just now and torturing myself as I'm half way through a psychology degree and feel I should be able to cope better ... but atm the days seem so long and I've no motivation left to do anything physical or energy for that matter ... I'll continue with the meds and hope but feel such a pathetic excuse for a human being ... I've no great big problems and others have and cope ... why am I so weak

You might feel weak, but really you are not.  Just look what you have accomplished!  And all while you have been going through all of this!!  You are not pathetic either!  You are just hurt, and and for a good reason!  It will take some time...you will be ok!!!

Hi mate things will get better plz don't despair or do anything rash as the meds will pull u through this...take care...
