Hi I had bloods done yesterday and they were back at late afternoon These are the results

GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD > 90 mL/min/1.73m^2 [> 90.0]

AKI Flagging Level GPS NIL

I am a bit confused is I don't know what they mean, am seeing my gp in the morning, so will discuss with him, I know its to do with my liver and kidneys.

Thanks don't need diagnoses just to know what the results mean.

Hi Yvonne,

the laboratories doing tests of kidney function have an algorithym which if the numbers they find on test have any concerns then this 'Flags' a  warning sent to the clinicians in case of  Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). This   is to permit prompt action in case there is a problem like a blockage or adverse effect from any medication.  I would expect your GP to send you to the Urology Department with some urgency unless he is able to diagnose the problem.

I am familiar with this as I have poor kidney function as one has been removed.

Thank you Ken for your very informative reply. I am sorry you have had to go throught this also. I have many other illnesses and am disabled, I am not worried to say the least what will be will be at the end of the day. I am on Methotrexate so that may be the culprit.

Will let you know more tomorrow. Hope you are having a good day today xxx

Hi Yvonne,

I think you could be right about the Methotrexate.  It is very difficult to find meds and antibiotics that are safe with renal impairment.  The docs get really worried if they think something they have prescribed has caused a problem, and may look for any other story!  Be suspicious, we do not want to go sooner than necessary!

Good luck

Lol yes they can be pig headed at times can't they. I am in the Uk, thank you again

Hi Yvonne,

I have some sympathy with them as they are overworked.  However they can dish out meds to most people safely and they do,  but there are some of us for whom this can be a danger. I found the hospital medics quite careful, and they did consult the pharmacist which was reassuring. However I was discharged with them saying 'sort out your meds with your GP'!  I look up the internet for all drug contra indications before taking anything now!

Thats what I do too before I start them xxx

I knew he wouldn't mention the AKI as I had looked it up on the NICE website and it says they don't always report the first AKI Nul but hey ho hopefully it wont get worse lol thanks for listening Ken
