hi i just wanted to update everyone reading this to reassure you if you are waiting for a cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal) I had the op this week!!!!! i am home now. and feeling ok ish.
i have to say the op was a success they did it keyhole and it went well. bad points were tho - I HAVE NEVER EVER felt pain like the pain i had following the operation, it felt like i had been stabbed is the only way to describe it. I could not belive i had keyhole and not the open operation afterwards. But the staff gave me loads of good stuff, morphine and the like, so i am happy to say i was alot better within in a day and moving about, weeing, dressing myself and eating.
I went home two days later. I am now ok and recuperating at home. The other bad effect i must warn people about is not diarrohea (i've not had that yet) but SEVERE constipation - i only went today and it has been a week. it was horrible, i cannot tell you how much high fibre foods and laxitives i have took. i imagine it was the codeine pills which i have been on. which i am cutting back on now cos my actual wound/tummy pain is minimal now ( i am 5 days post op now)it only hurts in my tummy muscles now when i sit up out of bed and strech and stuff.
i have also had a bit of naughty food i could not have dreamed of eating before when i had my stones- cheese, choc, garlic bread and nuts. Just a little mind. I am looking forward to a good curry/fish and chips when i have recovered.
So i say if you are pre- op go for it don;t be scared!! i saw a few very alarming young girls in hospital ( iam 28 ) younger than me who had stones and had bad complications from them:- jaundice, pancreatitis, unimaginable pain, and to me it seems not worth the risk of keeping them in. You need to get rid of them before you do damage to your other organs.
The pain was bad- but it passed quick and i am doing a few chores round the house now even!! It is so worth it.
Hope this helps.
abster.
xx
