Hi, I’m 6 days postop for thr, left side. I’m 68, and struggling with nausea

**

Are yo taking any pain killers such as Oxy ******* as these made me ill, stopped taking and everything was great.

I had terrible nausea for about a week after my hip op. I kept saying ‘I feel so sick’. I lived on mashed potato, apparently white food is a good starter then go to yellow food, I am not sure how true this is, it was something my father who is a doctor came up with, so it may be rubbish!

WHAT PAIN MEDS ARE YOU TAKING? VICODIN IS THE ONLY ONE THAT DOESN’T MAKE ME SICK. HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON

I was given one shot of morphine in hospital, then paracetamol, codiene and couple of naproxin. since yesterday, ive knocked out the codiene and am taking only paracetamol, which isnt actually controlling the pain! The nausea is better but still there and appetite zero

Stopped everything except paracetamol but thats not helping with the pain!

Well if it works, thats great! Had other hip done 4 years ago and never had any of this Had spinal and sedation this time, so much for no nausea!

I had a spinal too!

sorry to hear your not doing so great! i had THR 5 days ago, had 2 days in hospital and then came home. Discharged with co codomol & ibuprofen. Pain relief was well managed during day but night time was painful. My g.p gave me nefapam to take at night and to stop the stomach pain from the tablets, I take a lanzaparole tablet 1st thing in a morning and about 30 mins before teatime medication (its a stomach protector). Works a treat. Also have a mild laxative to gently combat the constipation caused by medication. Felt like my GP listened to me really well.

I was given co codamol before which really helped, but loathe to take because of nausea, which i didnt have before. I also have naproxen and stomach tablets so may give them a go and if nausea gets worse, stop them! Thank you for your reply

Hi Linda
Were you not offered antisickness medication? Phone your GP for a prescription asap and try keep taking you pain meds.
Both my sister and I had hip replacements last month. Myself on Nov 6th, a posterior approach, my sister on the 23rd an anterior approach. I was done through the NHS in England and she privately in Ireland. I had everything given for pain relief and suffered nothing more than constipation. Initially my sister was given nothing more than paracetamol and was in awful discomfort. When she finally was given morphine, it made her sick. Antisickness medication helped sort that out.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

You were very lucky, in my case even the anti sickness medication did not seem to work. I hate to think what would have happened if I did not have it!! I had lateral posterior in UK under the NHS.
