Hi there....I am Hashimotos and so I cannot take only T4.....the t3 and t4 med is working better for me even after a month I notice abit more energy. I take my med at night. If you are menopausal like me then a hormonal imbalance also is contributing to the weight gain. I am on estrogen and progesterone and also DHEAS....read up on symptoms when you are low on all of these. I had a full metobolic panel and my doc is giving me everything I am low on. Also be sure to take all vitamins and minerals. I am taking another one I just found out is good, I just ordered it but cannot remember the name of it offhand...I will give you a list of what I take and the combo does make me feel better and also with my thyroid med. I am going to try the raw adrenal cortex. I have been reading on it and think it may help my adrenals. They also play a big part in this..make sure and get your adrenals checked also....good luck...

Hi there....I have found two only in the state of Washington that will accept medicaid. I am on SSI so I needed to find one that would accept my medical. I see Dr Roman Krupa in puyallup Wa.... He is such a wonderful doctor. If you are thinking of contacting him I will get the info for you if you live close to him. He also does weight management and much more. He is a blessing to me. I tell him all the time I know God has sent me to him. I do get a discount on items if I refer someone....so please mention my name Cameron Collins if you decide to see him....but you will love going to a natural doctor. He took me off of levothyroxine immediately and put me on armour thyroid.....I needed the t3 and t4 combo cause my body was not converting the t4 to the t3 correctly. Also my adrenals were so low and he also put me on hormones to correct things that are wrong with me. i hope this all helps....I wish I knew to go to a natural doc before this all started......
Good luck
Cameronita
Also......medicaid pays for my gas to go see him because I live in Longview Wa....so it is a drive a bit.....but that is so fortunate for me and it is a blessing that medicaid pays for the gas so I can see a good doctor...there is also another in Monroe Wa.....but I would have to get that info for you.....I do have it....hope this all helps....

Hello there
I am desperately trying to find out where I can buy ARMOUR from. I live in London and none of the health not the homeopathic pharmacies know it..
Thank you in advance
Hi there....you may be able to find it online but you do need a doctor to prescribe it....thereare pharmacies online....you need to do research yourself and educate your doctors a bit. My doctor is treating my symptoms and not the numbers like most conventional docs do. I am so thankful...he is a godsend to me. Good luck to you....I am praying for all these people who suffer like I do with this.....
I too am experiencing the same problem. All my life (33 years) I have weighed under 120 lbs. after taking this medicine for about 6 months, I now weigh 132 lbs and have the tummy too. I too am upset about this. Should I stop taking the medicine?
My TSh is <0.03 so is too low and is called surpressed. I have reduced my intake of Levothyroxine (T4) but still take the same amount of T3. They will check and see if this has increased my TSH. The normal range is 0.35mu/L -5.00mu/L. Yours sound low so you need to reduce your Levothyroxine to increase it. T4 normal ranges are 9.00 - 24.00 pmol/L so your reading looks ok on that. You haven't said from what quantity they cut you down to. I was on 150mcg a day now on 125mcg and will see if this has made an effect to raise my TSH, and if not it may be cut down to 100. I would reccomend going on T3 as well as T4 ad I have felt better on it over the years but still get some aches and pains but we are getting older each day so maybe down to that. Unfortunately having an underactive Thyroid one gains weight, I eat healthyly but still put weight on and taking more T4 or T3 does not make a difference. It is better to stick to the amount the health professionals tell you to take as they obtain your results from your blood tests. Like I said you never stated what quantity you were on before, so to lower it by 25mcg to start with and have a blood test then reduce it down again by another 25mcg to see if that helps.
Just wanted to add my voice to this old post. I have had exactly the same experience. I was a very slim person, I had thyroid cancer and at first my GP put me on a good Thyroxine drug from Forrest Phamaceuticals until thier patent ran out, and, double whammy my wonderful doctor retired! I had to change my brand and I put on 60lbs in 4 months. My new doctor says it has nothing to do with the Thyroxine drug. YES IT DOES! Please, please do the research to find out what the problem is. Start by accepting that there is a problem! The depressing part about this is that it is not just my GP that said this, it is the endocrinologist - the head of the department! Yes, it's all about money, we don't matter.
Oh dear, I feel fr you as a similar thing is happening to me! The problem is everybody thinks that we're exagerating until they see (in my case) my stomach. I am 71 and have always bee very slime 7.4 I think that is about 105 lbs. When I was 65 I stopped smoking and saw the ponds pile on, every one said at least you're healthy even if you're gaining weight. Then began my 6 years of many different diets and exersize until last week my docotor suggested I go on Thyroxine medication, well each morning after my shower I go on my scales and I have been gaining between 1 - 1.5 lbs per day. I can know how people feel with this problem, but on Monday I am off to my GP and I want to know what in the earth is going on. I know this doesn't help anyone with their weight problem but at least they know they are not alone.
Hi Cameronita. Are you saying that if I stop the levothyroxine I will lose the 4 - 5 pounds I've gained in the passsed 4 days? I hope so. I was so pleased when my doctor prescribe this medication as I thought I would lose weight, but instead I've gained it. I will not be taking it any more after I've seen my doctor on Monday.
Hi, Can't stand the weight I've put on since using Levothyroxine. Am off to my GP Monday and will stop using this drug.
I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid and myxadema over 30 years ago. The endocrinologist said I have an autoimmune disease, does this mean I have Hashimotos ? I have been on different amounts of thyroxine all this time, currently 200 mg but am still symptomatic. I have brain fog, permanent fatigue, weight gain ( now weigh 5 stones more than my weight of 10 stone at age 27) muscle and joint aches, thin hair, sleep issues, I can go to sleep but am constantly waking ( up to 8 times nightly) Although I have been back to my GP on numerous occasions he just fobs me off, saying my levels are normal. I mourn the loss of my quick mind most of all but don't feel that I have any options as my gp is unhelpful. Any suggestions will be gratefully recieved.
i was told i had hypothyriodism in nov was on 25mg of levothyroxine and have been on 100mg for about 6-8 weeks and ive noticed my tummy has been growing and my eating habbits are the same getting fed up just feel like coming off them like you say...think ill be going back to the doctors to see if there is anything else i can take for this problem ????? i feel your pain.x
Are you able to come off the thyroide medication? I have been back to my doctor and am planning to stop my medication after my next blood test. I have an apointment in June to see and endocrinologist, we will see. Watch this space.
It's not the meds. It's your thyroid. When your thyroid is high u gain weight and it's very hard lose it and ur mind plays tricks on u mine was so bad I had true writing when I wrote it looked like a 4 yr olds handwriting
hello there. i have an underactive thyroid and it seems the doctor will put me in levothyroxine. But I am not keen. From everything I have read I will get awful side effects very similar to how I feel now. Whenever I take any medication for anything, even an asparin or an antihistamine I get bad side effects worse than the problem. Please tell me what the supplement estrogen thing is you take and how you are getting o with your armour. Thanks.
I have much the same problem having been prescribed Thyroxin some 18 years ago and all was fine then it was changed to Levothyroxin and with no change at all to my life stile my weight started piling on, I am now close on 3 stone heavier and the doctor says I look fine! The extra weight is making me tired and affecting my skeletal structure making me ache all over and the doctor just tells me age does not come alone! I am 67. I am fed up with being fobbed off and it now appears used as a guinnie pig I have no faith in my doctor or the NHS, it's true when they say it's a doctors Practice! They 'practise' on us and one day they might just get it right if they don't kill us first!
I have the same problem dear I'm in the U.S. but no information on this drug relating to the weight I've gained and I've never been this big!! My top weight never over 130. Now I'm at 153 in just one month of using this drug..I'm thinking of having my thyroid removed because i can't deal with tummy poking out like this...and you are right! It's got to be this drug!! This is the weight i was at pregnant w my children! I too am very unhappy..nothing looks good on me! Write me back if you find anything before i do this surgery..
Crystal
This is an update from my own research you can literally " take it with a grain of SALT"..(PUN) lol although this isn't funny...levothyroxin. Aka..synthroid is a sodium meaning salt, which does cause water and weight gain. I found a group of natives with significant groiters from literally not having any salt in their diet and questioned my doctor rather i could just add a little extra salt to my regular diet rather than take levithyroxin and explained the natives I'd read about. My doctor insisted that was not significant finding as they developed groiters over a lifetime of no salt diet and mine was grim this disease...point blank I'm sick of being not able to fit into my wardrobe and feeling worse because of it than i did before starting this med..trying the little extra salt diet and water pills yup get rid of this extra weight...i will update you all with reports. ~hugs to all with this disease and the bull crap fed to us
The bloating you are experiencing could be that the absorbtion isnt gradual enough. this can sometimes happen until it levels out. Admitingly the hormone regulates the body including digestion speed. This bloating sounds like its a little fast at the moment. Did your doctor start with 25mg and increase no sooner than 6 weeks?
I suggest avoiding foods that inhibit absorbtion such as soya and miso soup and soya type chinese sauces, too much cacifourous foods and white bread goods.
The weight-gain sounds like you are on a high dose, are you eating more to get full? This is not professional advice but... cut dose by 25mg and eat some soya for a couple of days to reduce the bloating as it inhibits the extra dose absorbtion and may give some relief. The reduction of mg should reduce the plate portion as well.
Write an eating plan of foods that aggrevate.
Get well soon,
