Hi I've had an eye virus for 6 weeks and it's not clearing

Hi I started with conjunctivitis 6 weeks ago I got some cream from my pharmacist and it didn't clear so I went to my gp he put me on strong antibiotics and another cream and now it's worse no gunk just crusty watery discharge and very red sore eyes I went to eye hospital twice had various swaps taken all came back clear but they are saying it's a virus and will go away alone 6 weeks of painful blood full very sore eyes has anyone had this and got any tips I'm beside myself here I'm profoundly deaf so I rely on my eyes to lip read

Hi Nannacole, just to let you know that I have had viral conjunctivitis, and symptoms exactly the same as yours, and the trips, to Dr. ,eye hosp, etc. basically It has taken about 10 weeks to be nearly symptom free. Still a little gungy and red in mornings, plus eyeball pain. I have the last few weeks been putting eye drops for dry eyes, and it helps the stinging, and keeps them lubricated. Hope this helps. It certainly is a nasty virus.

It's so nice to know I'm not alone I've found it quite scary in the morning when I can't open my eyes it feels like I'm going to rip something apart! Oh well plod on only another 3 weeks to go but thankyou for your reply it means so much!
