I've suffered from leg ulcers for a long time and usually in the past they have come and gone, with treatment being 4 layer bandaging and rest and exercise.
This last 10 or 12 years though rhey've been more persistant and whilst they can be painfull my biggest problem has been itching. Give me pain any time, with painkillers I can live with it but itching is something else. Itch drives me crazy, I'd happily scratch 'til I bleed.
Is there a cure for itching that really works ??

Don't know if this will help you, but for 18 months I had an urticaria rash which was excrutiatingly itchy especially when warm in bed at night. Anti-histamine drugs were prescribed but these made me feel drowsy. Instead I resisted scratching the rash, sometimes I'd give in, but if I could resist scratching for say twenty minutes the itch would turn to a burning feeling and eventially die away. Then the rash wouldn't stand out so strong. Eventually the rash disappeard after 18 months, thank God.
You could try the sap from the leaves of an Aloe Vera plant (purchased in most garden centres). I find it gives great relief to the stinging and pain of my ankle ulcer. It may stop itching, too.
