hi im 21 and for about 2 years iv been told i have IBS. 6 weeks ago i was in severe pain i was told my G.P to go to A&E with suspected appendisitis ! I was in hospital for 4 days where i was told i was going to have a laparoscapy i was fasted and on a drip then send home with no investigation as the consultant thought it was my ovaries by this point i was really confussed! My mum took me back 5 days later as the painkillers were not helping and i was now feeling really ill (vomiting, fever, clamy skin) I was then admitted again this time an x-ray and pelvic ultra sound scan were carried out. I was then told i had an abcess on my appendix ( you can imagine my frustration by this point) they told me they'd have to remove my appendix but could not do so for another month!! I was sent home again with morphine, tramadol, anti-sickness pills and laxitives! The morphine stopped controlling the pain and i had to go back i was then told i was constapated arggg! I got an enima and send home. A week later i was back this time my mum had no intention of letting them send me home utill something was done. I had a laparoscay on monday where they removed my appendix but when i came round from my anistetic i was told not only had they removed my appendix they also found a burst ovarian cyst which they removed and cleaned me out. Its now a week later and im still recovering but this experience has been a nightmare not just for me but my mum, dad and daughters leah 4 and gracie 1. Im just glad i had my family to support me. ME AND ME MUM THINK THAT ALL DRS SHOULD HAVE GYNECOLOGY TRAINING AS OVARIAN CYSTS ARE SUCH AN OVERLOOKED PROBLEM. I HOPE YOU ALL FEEL WELL! :D

hi im 28 and having a similar experience to you im 28 and in the last week ive been in sear pain in my ovarys and my stomach has swelled up to the point i look 6months pregant which im not i went to hospital and had loads of tests and got toldi need a scan i was sent to another hospital that day to have one then to be told i have to wait a week then to be told i had ibs which i new was,nt the case,my stomach still swollen and ive got clamy skin i was just wondering if your stomach did the same

hi

This sounds similar to my experience and i have to say, i agree about it being underated. 2 weeeks back i got severe abdominal pain, mainly on the right hand side, was feeling sick and could barey walk! i was lucky to be near a hospital where i study and admitted myself to A&E. After 2 hours they took urine and blood samples telling me my white blood cell count was up etc, they said there was infection but suspected appendicitis!! Anyway, i was on a drip for 24 hours, and had a scan the morning after i was admitted to rule out any gyno problem. However it took them 24 hours to tell me i had a haemorrahgic ovarian cyst which had ruptured! it was painful!!! Anyway, they didnt give me much more detail i.e if it was polycystic etc(and i didnt really know much about the condition so didnt know what questions to ask). Was also eager to get out of that place feeling totally fed up with the wait!! they just advised my GP to put me on the pill to prevent it happening again. However, since then ive tried getting more info from the hospital etc but no 1 seems interested! Its so annoying

oh my goodness! this is exactly my experience right now!

Like you, I was told several years back that I had IBS by a very sniffy 'specialist' after being referred by my doc. All he did was have a feel of my abdomen & that was it.

My periods have always been heavy & painful but since having my 4 year old little boy they have been REALLY heavy, LOTS of pain & clotting. The docs gave me Mefenamic Acid tablets for pain and an anti clotting tablet, too.

Anyway, I came out to mallorca (where I'm typing this) for a family holiday & to visit my parents on 11th Sept. On the morning of 15th i woke to sever pain. had vomiting, shaking, muscle spasms that pinned me to the floor etc. my husband called an ambulance which took over an hour to arrive by which time all that was aorking properly were my voice and my eyes! At Inca Hospital i was put on a saline drip as well as a morphine one. like you, they originally suspected appendicitis but quite quickly ruled it. i was x-rayed, 2 ultrasounds, prodded & poked, sent to gynae where i had the most painful vaginal probe. anyway, to sum up, a surgeon who i had seen in the morning said they were going to operate on me in a couple of hours: starting with just a laparoscopy and would go from there. I ended up 2 hours on the table with 3 surgeons: I had a haemorraghuc cyst which had burst, another several present & I was riddled with endometriosis. All was removed (& tested) & I had to be washed out.

I spent 6 days in hospital, have a huge cesaeraen wound stapled within an inch of its life, another smaller stapled wound where they began with keyhole & a drain hole. I am now recouperating at my mums. I lost over a stone in weight on an already skinny frame - i look skeletal!

When i go home i have to see my doc to see what preventative treatment i can have.

it was a truly horrible experience but i am so glad it happened here. reading several experiences, it leaves me cold that some girls ans women are being sent home with these conditions.

We are being left in terrible pain and at risk of complications.
