Hi i had my op 11weeks ago suffering with a lot of wind and stomach aches i was wondering if any person are getting these problems and what are they doing to help the problem.
Well Mick,
I too am having a tremendous amount of wind. My operation was about 14 weeks ago. I am trying to eat slowly and watch that I don't eat anything that could cause gas. I sometimes get some soreness under my ribs and definitely get gas pains that can wake me up at night. They are quite severe. Other people have said that they've been told you can't vomit after this operation but I have twice. Tonight I am particularly windy. I really don't know what is the problem tonight. I don't regret the operation as I had a giant paraesophageal hernia that was causing me lots of symptoms. They were worried that my stomach would twist and strangle the organs below and my chances in an emergency operation would be 50/50. I had been to emergency 4 times in the last six months. I have read that you can have trouble with wind after this operation. I am still much better than I was before. I hope in time this improves but maybe it won't.

Hi Judy so can you please tell me do you take any thing to help the wind to release thank for your reply.
Mick,
i take Gas X . Sometimes I have taken 3 or 4 in a day. I live in Canada so don't know if it is called the same over there. I also try to get up and walk when it hurts , exercise helps relieve the gas, which can be excruciating. After eating I don't lie down but stay sitting up. I don't drink any pop , beer or wine . They say that the fundoplication can't be undone but this can be a side effect of it. I am lucky I can burp and I do.
Judy
Hi Judy what is gas.
HI again i look them up for us to buy them it about £21.00 per 100 thank for that info mick
Mick,
Gas is wind. The ingredient in Gas X is simethicone. Gas X is an antiflatulent. It helps get the wind out and gives you some comfort.
Judy.
Hi Mick,
It's good that you ask questions like this - so us people who are going to have the op soon have an idea what to expect! I was told something quite interesting when I saw my surgeon though - he said that when you have a hiatus hernia you actually take more air in when you eat - which in turn creates wind, and that if you have lived with this for a long time, then it takes time to get out of the habit! I sometimes use a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water if my wind is bad sometimes - with me right now wind seems to sit around my hernia - and I belch like a bull frog!
Hi Glennie68 i think you are lucky that you can burp i wish i could my wind come from my bottom very inbarrising but like you said my docter did say in time it should settle down.
Hi Mick,
Yes I heard sometimes that is the case - but at least it's better out than in! I must admit with one of the meds I was on made me more windy in the southerly direction - but anyone who knows what you are going through will understand!
