HIDA and ultrasound clear but gallbladder symptoms. Should I push for surgery?

I've been having episodic right UQ pain for about 7 months. I've also had some fatty loose stools and upper back pain which as got worse in the past few weeks. Generally a pain attack will come on 1-2 hours after good.

Surgeon is considering gallbladder but not convinced as u/sound and HIDA normal. It really hurts right in the spot where the gallbladder is!!

Has anyone here had GB removed despite normal testing? Did it help w pain? I'm also a coeliac but strictly gluten free. Thanks!!

Hi there, I wish I could give you the answer!! Although I am in the same boat, tests come back clear for gallstones but my symptoms are the same as yours, been very bad since early this year and getting no better.  I am aware that the gallbladder can malfunction and become useless.  I know that other folk on here will give you good advice, I wish you well and do keep us all posted as to your progress, I would be very interested to hear thing go.

Hi,

I had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago, my scan showed only sludge but it was also full of small stones, my surgeon said it was packed.  Scans do not always show stones and you have symptoms that shout gallbladder.  I had no pain but really bad yellow fatty loose stool, if it's greasy and yellow it's gallbladder.  Also have you had any acid indegestion or excess gas?

Hi

My daughter 21 now suffered for 4 years with pain, GB was only functioning at 14% & they removed it January .

She is now far worse with Sphincter of Oddi level 3, this is a risk of GB removal & she has not managed to go back to work since the surgery.

Her A&E visits were every other day, can't eat or drink & a mess.

They did Botox injections into her duodenum & Oddi muscle on the 29/3 & we went for a second opinion last night so this surgeon is doing one more round of Botox & if that doesn't work she will be on pain management for the rest of her life as well as fat free diet .

She asked him last night if she could have a transplant of a GB back in.

So it seems you are either ok after it being removed or really not ok but no way of telling.

Every other test came up as ok so it's dreadful.

She wishes she had never had it out as pain once a week was ok but every day is debilitating and life changing I can't remember the last time she managed to see friends and go out.

Rather be honest as it's not a black & white operation.

Kindest regards

C
