This morning before i ate my blood sugar test showed 5.6 mmol which is perfect. I ate 30 carbohydrates and took my insulin as normal for the amount of food i had. 1h after i did 30minutes pilates, checked my blood sugar level again and it was a massive 18 mmol. Does anyone know the cause? Also i did not have any sugar intake just a scrambled egg on toast and a tomato (+ coffee with milk no sugar)
toast is 'sugar' isn't it?
Is known to be possible. Don't know why it happens but could be to do with the release of stored glycogen by the body, the important bit is how quickly it falls again.
Test each time exercise then let GP, diabetic nurse etc know about readings so can alter medication if need to.
Is there a possibilty you didn't inject the right amount of insulin? Syringe/vial or pen? Did it leak out and not get under your skin?
While rare, it has happened to me that I thought I had drawn up enough in the syringe but there was an air bubble or the vial was almost empty. I caught it in better light, but if I hadn't triple checked, I might have missed it.
With the pen, I have had the needle bend on the inside on a few occassions when you don't screw it on straight, so that it causes you to not get your insulin. Or if the needle bends on the outside, you squirt the insulin outside your body instead.
Also, did you inject in a different location that takes longer for the insulin to get in? Did your blood sugar ever come down? If it didn't, then maybe you didn't get it in your body for one reason or another. If you did, consider the injection location or if the food was different than you normally eat, like the type of bread. Could it have been more than 30g carbs total?
Did you have any stress? Do you normally do that workout after eating? Did you have any kind of scare that caused even the slightest adrenaline rush? That puts glucose in your body.
Yes but slow acting
Yes it all went in no bump changed needle and site of injection. For sure they were 30 carbs. I did other injection to get it back down and it's ok now. I just dont know why as toast goes into blood after 1-2h later so when i checked was supposed to go up a little like 7.5 or so but went up to 18 which is scary.
It did not fall back by itself i had to do an extra dose and even at this time is somewhere at 10 mmol which is atill high. The only thing that may afect this is my backup (Lantus) which i have problems with when injecting as i have to do it in my leg arm or back side and is very unconfortable for me. So maybe im thinking last night when i injected it did not go under my skin enough even tho it did not leak or get a bump.
Did you have any sugar on your finger when you tested? When you took an additional shot, did it go too low then?
No it -did not. it went to 10 mmol 2-3 h after i took the other shot. I am honestly strugling at the moment keeping my blood sugar levels normal. It makes me angry and horible and have no ideea what to do.
Another thing worth letting those involved in your care know as sounds like need an alternative
How old are you? Hormones? How long have you been diabetic? Type 2?
Sometimes your body just does it to itself-it makes glucose. Just let it go for now and see if there's a pattern. Maybe it's time to increase your medications if you've been diabetic more than two years. Of course, ask your doctor.
Im 21 and diabetic from the age of 7 (type1) i am awaiting a appointment letter from the specialist and i will make a list before i go. Thanks for help x
I will do that as i dont want any complications. Thanks for the advice
good luck.
