High Gamma Gt

I became sick in June 1980 with flue like symptoms. By November 1980 I was very sick with jaundice, tiredness & a general feeling of sickness combined with itchy skin.

LFT revealed high levels in most but the Gamma Gt was almost 500.

I have never smoked and do not drink. I have had 3 liver biopsies which showed only mild bile staining.

My latest LFT are still showing elevated levels & the Gamma GT is still way over what is considered normal.

The specialist & doctors I have seen over the past 29 years have no idea what is causing this problem.

Today I have had another blood test for LFT together with a test for Hereditary Haemochromatosis-- high iron levels in the blood.

The results will be back next week, maybe after all these years we will now no what is causing my liver to over work.

I have the same issue:

LFT raised to high levels, 187, Gamma Gt is 728 and iron level high, 426.

The doctor does not know why.

Hi Alice, Have you had any luck on finding out why your LFT's continue to be high. I have had high LFT's for the past 15 years and unable to find a reason. Don't want to have a biopsy if I can help it. Believe a lot of the readings have to do with stress, weight, the foods you eat before the test etc. Any info you can provide would be great. Very worried.

I've just had results of my blood test it showed high iron and Gamma GT of 832. Doctor said he is quite concerned. I've had to stop drinking immediately and have to go for a liver scan. I'm 66 and have been drinking all my life. Just hope it's not bad news.
