Morning all,
I hope you all had good weekends and did something enjoyable?
Mine was great but just got a whole lot better. It is the possibly the nicest feeling to log on to the PC on a Monday morning and see all your replies.....brought a tear to my eye to know that you guys are out there supporting me – thank you very much. :D
This depression has been the bane of my existence for the past 6 months and im sure that you all feel the same. Where it came from, why it’s here and how we get rid of it is not straight forward. So far ive found a few of the answers im looking for and one I believe helps a great deal and that I would like to share with you all is this........SAY NO MORE OFTEN.
Have any of you seen the film called “Yes Man” that recently came out staring Jim Carrey (Great film btw!)……the guy says YES more to things that he would usually say no to and lives a happier life; when you have depression you need to do the OPPOSITE. I have been saying yes to everyone and everything for so long even when I didn’t want to, such that ive forgotten what it feels like to do things for ME. I want to live my life and do the things ive always wanted – not do what my friends, family and colleagues want me to do. Take charge of your life and don’t ever feel obliged to do something you really don’t want to do as you will get further depressed and unhappy.
Some of you may be saying “Yeh HT, but its not that easy”. I totally agree, its not. But if you really REALLY want to get better then you need to at least try to make some small changes in your life to promote recovery. Whether it be reducing your working hours, being more selfish at the weekends, cancelling those plans to see your friends/family to take more time for yourself…….it all helps. One step at a time guys and we’ll get there, just have some belief.
Misc,
Of course I remember ya pal, glad things are going good in your camp. Congrats on making the move and doing something for YOU, its quite evident that you have made the most positive move and the path to recovery is in full flow. The book is a life-saver……it says so much that we can all understand and relate to, and use to help us get better and beyond the confines of this damned depression. Glad you liked it, my counsellor is chuffed I passed on the info and that it is helping more people to get better.
Pinky,
Thanks for the positive thoughts. I would have been back sooner but felt I should take some time out and put some feeling into my next post. Im extremely angry and frustrated at the moment – in a positive way. I want rid of this illness and have the mindset to focus and drive forward and make it go away but in the same breath keep it away. Keep up the posts and try as best you can to prevent the paranoia……I didn’t go away because of you, im back because of you - I WANT TO HELP AND SUPPORT YOU ALL.
Nikki,
I am back……and im gonna push for some truly positive posts this time around – so if you need a boost, WATCH THIS SPACE.
Gracie,
Wonderful hearing from you, thanks for the encouragement to carry on. My wheels are back in motion now and im running downhill to gather some momentum before that uphill run. I agree, some material things in life are important but don’t let them consume you……avoid “wants”, “needs” and “must haves” as best you can as this only sets the bar high and can make you more depressed should you not reach that height. Best to have things that you “would like”, that way if you don’t reach it, never mind, you will get there soon enough if you have the drive to carry on working towards it.
Not much else to say really except a big thank you to all of you for staying here and listening to me, supporting me and encouraging me to carry on through the pain. I am always here should any of you need a chat, to offload or some positive thoughts either on a general post or a private message.
Have a great Monday guys, all the best.
