Hi, I've only been on this med for about a week and I was starting to get out and take my mind off things. Now I am panicked, feel like I have no purpose to live I just want to stay in bed all day long, fall asleep and never wake up. When will things feel good again I can't take this anymore I have nothing I'm so alone I feel like I would be better off without all this suffering
Hi Devin
It took me just under 2 weeks for the side effects to settle.
Keep going Devin they will soon fade.
Chin up x

It's so hard I feel like I have nothing to live for I don't want to suffer this anymore I don't want to be a failure
Hi with Citalprom u get worse then better it can take month to 3 month for u to be off anxiety as for me it took 4 days to feel just a little better, been on Citalprom , for 6 years worked miracles of happiness for me, keep in touch
I can't wait that long I have been going through this since I was 10 years old I am now 18 and I don't want to be here I have no purpose I don't have anything to look forward to I just feel sorry for myself everyday
Devin,
You have a lot of living ahead of you! You have so much to look forward to! Please, please, please be patient and give the medication some time. If you have suffered through this for 8 years, you can make it a few more weeks for the drugs to kick in.
We all understand the waiting is awful, but you can do it!

Devin
You need to give it time .
I really struggled at first but kept myself busy by spending time with family and close friends.,.. Most of the time I cried or just didn't speak but I had company.
Keep your chin up you will get there soon , your nearly over the worst if your already been taking them a week x

I suffered for 16 years before I started these meds. Waiting a few months more seemed nothing compared to the long years I'd been ill. Yes I wanted it to stop there and then, and I also had nobody to talk to, not even this site (the Internet wasn't even invented)!
You will be up and down for a while yet, but each time you feel up it will get easier, and the downs will get less and less. You have your whole life ahead of you and I can assure you these meds will work for you.
Its a long road and it's a tough one, but you will get there. Since I recovered I've found its made me a better person because having had happiness taken away from me once I value it so much more now.
Life will be good again ... and it's just around the corner. xx
Hi Devin, I've just started taking citalopram 20mg, currently on my 4th day ... you say you feel panicked? do you feel as if your constantly concentrating on your breathing?
Hi Gary
Yes that's very normal early on its one of the side effects .
Hope you feel better soon ,. Stick with them the side effects don't last too long .

Hi Debi
Thank you for your reply. Last wednesday in the evening I started to feel like I couldn't breath. It carried on for a while and in the end I decided to call for an ambulance, they done a ECG on me and then decided to take me to A&E to do some blood tests and x ray. Everything came back normal, then on thursday, I started to feel very irritable, always focusing on my breathing. I told my doctor about this and he gave me citalopram 20mg for take for 2 weeks and increasing the dose to 40mg after that, do I only have anxiety and can citalopram fix this facination I have with my own breathing? for example it feels like am always struggling to breath, I get intrusive thoughts which affects my breathing which then scares the hell out of me, feels like am having a panic attack
Hi Gary
It sounds like your having panic attacks .
I was the same but I was focusing on pains in my heart.... The more you panic the worse you feel, the more you struggle to breathe .
The doctors have me beta blokes to take when I was panicking and they Defo helped me. The Citalopram has Defo helped with my Aniexy and my mood. I'm on 20 mg which is what I first started on and in my 5 th week .
Hope this helps

I do agree with you Debi, to be honest I've always had a bit of anxiety inside me but now it's just gone so high it's affecting my everyday life, I haven't been into work this week, I just want to get back to normality.
This is the second time I am on citalopram, am hoping it works again because I have so much to look forward too and so many things to do. To be honest I can notice gradual improvements, but thats only in the evening, bit by bit, I do understand it takes a while to get into your system fully but am just a impatient person I suppose
I'm sure you will start to feel better sooner rather than later Gary .
It's just a pain in the butt that it takes so long eh!
Chin up and be patient x
Hello, thank you all for your support. I changed the time of taking my meds from night to morning and skipped the pill the night before, took it in the morning and my day was so emotional and dark. Started to feel better in the evening and feeling even better today!! I guess the highs are worth it thank you all again I am sticking to these meds and hope to feel better soon!
Dev
I am switching mine from night to morning as well. I will skip my dose tonight and take it tomorrow morning. I need to see if it helps with the insomnia I started having. When I don't sleep well, my anxiety seems to be worse. I am just starting my 4th week on Cit. I know I still have to give it more time.
I am am thrilled you are doing better!
Hi Devin
Good to hear your starting to feel a little better.

My doctor told me years ago that taking it in the morning helps with the sleep problem at night. Mind you were all different 🙄 Xx
