Hi I've been suffering with pain in my groin and hip/thigh for all most a year now seen the doctor last year has a steroid injection but did nothing been to see phiso he thinks it's a hip impingement so he referred me to see the hip doctor at the hospital well that was a waste off time as he things its to do with muscles but still sent me for an MRI scan still waiting for my results. I'm kind off hoping it shows something as the pain gets me down most days I'm only 30 and have 3 young children who love playing on the floor witch I'm finding it difficult doing. The pain all so gets worse after sitting for a long period of time or walking long distance I'm so fed up now I just wish the pain would do one the pain has even had me in tears its that bad I do have good days where it's not to bad then I have not so good days where I find it hard getting out off bed if anyone knows what it might be please let me know thanks for your time

Sorry to hear that you are struggling and in so much pain. I had both my hips replaced in my forties, and I thought that was young. But I do no of others, like you, who had theirs THR's in their twenties and thirties.
The first signs I had was always groin pain, and in the end it became unbearable, and like you it even hurt after sitting. But it appears that you are not suffering from an arthritic hip, from what your doctor and the hospital have said. So that must be stressful for you not knowing what they are going to do to help you with your particular problem.
Have they suggested that it may be arthritis at all?
The worst thing for me was that I am unable to take anti inflammatory pain relief, and was just advised to take paracetamol, which as you can imagine is completely useless when you are in agony. In the end I was given morphine, but that just made me feel nauseated all the time and I also had hallucinations.
I really do feel sorry for you, especially because on top of your pain, you are a young woman, and have three children to look after. I wish/hope that someone will soon be able to give you a possitive diagnosis and offer you some relief.

Hi sasha thanks for your reply they did diagnosis me with arthritis last August then gave me a hip injection and said that should help with the pain but it didn't I was on tramodol for about 3 months but it made me unwell been sick difficulties with breathing ect... I've just phoned the hospital today for my MRI results they said they are making me an appointment today to go back as my results are back just hope this is it and I finally get to find out what's wrong I will keep you up date with what's happening and what they say when I go.

That's good news, Samantha. At least you will know what is causing all your pain. I know you will already have told them how bad the pain is, but PLEASE dont't hold back, because they had me waiting almost four years before they actually did any surgery on my first hip, and over a year for my second. And because I had been taking anti inflammatories for a long time they wrecked my stomach, and like you, tramadol made me very nauseated, I couldn't even tolerate half a tablet. They will try to put you off and pump you with meds. Pain meds are okay short term, but lay it on the line about you having three young children to look after, and you need to be switched on and able to cope.

My pain began all of a sudden,afterusing an excercize bike indoors.doctor said it was HIP BURSITIS gave me a steroid injection,which made no difference. I go to physio but too painful. Waiting for hydro pool app. I control pain by taking 8 lots of cocodomal plus naproxine twice per day. X-ray showed arthritic hip so am waiting for a total hip replacement. I already have had my right hip done in 2007 and this had the effect of relieving me of all pain.

Hi sasha thanks when I seen the doctor about 5 weeks ago he was very rude wouldn't even let me tell him how bad the pain was or how it affects my routine and how I can't do things with my kids so I'm kinda hoping he will listen this time he did say he will be injecting my hip again but I don't want that as it did nothing last time I'm hoping he's not as rude this time round thanks for reply to messages it's good knowing that there is others out there that are in the same boat as me

Thanks carmelina just hoping I get some where this time just sick off this pain can't even cross my legs with out having to limp after for about 10 mins my hip all so pops sometimes and j feel it pulling when walking witch is a pain I all so feel the pulling in my tight sometimes

Hi everyone still waiting for my MRI results it's been 4 weeks now had a call yesterday saying that they need to have a look at it and book me an appointment to go back in, kinda hoping it's not bad news I'm still in a bit off pain. It was very bad on Saturday I would say more in my bum deep inside if that makes any sense it was very painful but it did wear off after about 8/9 hours I'm also finding it hard sleeping on the painful side. I will keep you updated when I find out what is wrong hopefully it will be soon xx 😊

I wish for your sake they would get a move on.
Along with the groin and hip pain I too sometimes got pain in my buttock and lower spine. I think that is mainly due to us walking oddly, because of hip pain.
When I found it difficult to sleep, I put a pillow at my bad hip side and laid with my leg over it. It did help, but I know what you're going through and it's no joke.

I will give the pillow a go see if that helps. I do feels as tho they are taking to long with the results I'm hoping that's a good thing I forget the pain could be to me walking with a limp i do try and walk as normal as I can but still finding myself walking a little strange my daughter sometimes says mum your walking like a duck as she finds it funny I wishing it would all go away I will definitely keep you up to date with my results.

I hope I explained the pillow thing okay. What you have to do is lay on your good side and have the pillow in front of you and place your bad hip leg over it. Hope it helps you 😊

I'm still waiting for my MRI results it's been ( weeks now they did have an appointment for me today the 11th but for some reason they cancelled it with out telling me I've been going through so much pain over this last week. I had that many pills that I started feeling unwell I've done a lot off crying as well last week due to the pain just wish they would get a move on with a appointment and stop cancelling the ones they have booked. Someone is ment to be phoning me today to try and fit me in this week but I have a feeling that won't be happing I all so think the first steroid injection I had last September is now wearing off as its been more painful this last week or so hopefully not long now

That's just not on. I feel so sorry for you being messed about like this.
Could you get in touch with PALS, (Patient Advice and Liaison Service), at the hospital in question? They did help me when I had problems with my hospital. That's what they are there for.
Before my second hip replacement I was kept waiting so long the pain became unbearable. Because I couldn't tolerate Tramadol I was eventually given opiates, but they made me very drowsy and unable to do much. Fortunately, my son was in his late teens, so no young children to look after, like you have. If they are not going to get a move on with things, if I were you, I would ask for another steroid injection. When you are in constant pain it really does wear you down, both mentally and physically.
Do you have a partner, or family member, who can help fight your case? My husband would come home from work and find me in tears and unable to cope with the pain. He phoned our GP and it was only then that they decided to give me the opiates. After my surgeon eventually did my operation, he came to see me and said that I must have been in a lot of pain as there was no cartilage left and it was just bone on bone. That actually made me have mixed feelings. Happy, that at least I knew I hadn't been a wuss, and annoyed that I had been left to suffer for so long.
Please phone PALS asap, and see if they can at least get your MRI results through for you quickly. And, tell them how you are being messed about.

Thanks for replying I'm going to give the hospital till the end off the week if I've not heard from them then I will be calling PALS.
I have a husband who has been helping me more this week with the kids ect... I've been on the phone to the doctors every day last week but they say they can't see me as its an on going problem they said I have to wait for my appointment at the hospital or phone next day to see if there is any appointments that's all I have been getting all last week even tried again today they said the same thing just feel I'm getting no where at the moment. If I haven't had a call by Monday next week that 6 weeks now since I had the MRI scan every time I call them they say he's on holiday or he's had a look needs to see me just waiting to book you in then next thing he's not looked at it yet not much longer

Hi Samantha, I do feel for u, this pain and frustration was what led me to bang the phone down stating that I WILL GO PRIVATE, and within a few days I had an app. With the consultant who immediately sent me next door to get new x-Ray's which cost me £170 for two and he said that the arthritis had deteriorated so much in eight months that the pain was being caused by No cartilage to prevent the bones from rubbing against each other at every movement I made. I also emphasised that I had no medical insurance to which he replied I can save u £11.500 by going on the NHS. The consultation cost me £250 plus the cost of x-Ray's £170 and the wait will b approx. Three months.

I phoned the hospital again today and they said they will ring me in the morning to book me an appointment but I'm not holed my breathe as I've been promised this for the last 4 weeks now I was thinking about going privately but don't have the money at the moment all I want is to get to the bottom off this as its been nearly a year now with this pain but the pain seems to be getting worse each day crossing my legs is a nightmare getting up is all so a nightmare limping around pain deep in my bum lower back groin thigh it's never ending 😢

So sorry to hear of your suffering especially as you are so young with young children. I wonder what your MRI will show, hopefully they will soon be able to explain the mystery and start treating you properly for all the pain you are suffering. I wonder how you got on with PALS. I would create as much fuss as you can, it canr be right that the doctors are so vague and unhelpful. As I have said before after one year of constant pain I was reduced to being housebound because it was too painful to move. Finally I went private costing £420 for the consultation and the x-rays and as I complained at the way I have been treated by the NHS, like you, the consultant said he would do the THR on the NHS, so I was rellieved because I would have to borrow the private fees for THR £11,500.

Hi sasha I've finally been to see the doctor at the hospital today for my MRI results and he said I have a lasral tear and some cartilage is missing there is nothing they can do for me other than a lot off injections and more physio I'm really upset that they can't do anything for me I asked what if this don't work he said I don't know what we will do next I can't keep suffering like this so upset right now 😢 He also said I have snapping syndrome but nothing can be done
