Hip and knee replacement

I am 9 weeks post op after right hip replacement and am awaiting a left knee replacement to be done in October. My hip feels very good just a bit tender at times by my knee is obviously agony. I am still using 2 crutches as I am very wary of my knee giving way and falling. Everyone says I should be only using one so am wondering if anyone else has this problem? I am a young outgoing 70 year old and desperate to fully return to my social life!!!

Hi Sandra:

I think if you need two crutches ,use them ..most people with just hip replacements might just need 1 crutch..but you have knee issues..I don't blame you for not wanting to fall..

Do what you are comfortable doing

Connie

If you had no knee problems you might be walking with only a stick by now. However not only are you recovering from a hip op you are preserving the knee in the best possible condition for the op. Do what is best for you and take no notice of anyone else. Do your physio so that your hip will be as strong as possible in October.

Best of luck

Hi Sandra

My knee was agony before my rthr and has impeded my recovery too. At 17 weeks post op I have discovered my iliotibial band is a problem. Thankfully my bowen therapist is helping x I am taking it easy and aftrrlots of back pain I went back to two crutches from 8-12 weeks. I am ow walking critchand stick free x

I had left knee done 22 mos. ago due to an injury. Had rthr 9 months ago also due to a break. Both have healed well

You would be better off using 2 sticks to keep your body balanced and avoid creating other problems
