I have now had four steroid injections and have been told next step is removal of the Bursa. What experiences have other people had with this operation? Any other remedies I should consider (except alternative)

Hi ,
Hip bursitis is very painful and steroids only are considered a short term fix.
The injections hurt more in my case than helped.
I eventually had THR and at that time the offending bursa was removed.
The bursa sac can fill will fluid for various reasons and cause a lot of pain. Don't let ot go to long catch it ASAP before I can cause more problems.
Thank you for your swift reply! Not sure what the term THR is - is that the procedure to remove the offending bursa? If so, could you give me a few details of what the surgery consists - is it day surgery, are you off your feet for any time, have there been repercussions with the tendons moving over the hip bone minus a bursa? Sorry for the third degree.

Sorry THR is total hip replacement due to osteoarthritis. See online removal of bursa. Very good on you tube.
No third degree at all. I totally get the pain issue. Get two or more opinions from surgeons. Be you own advocate and see what and where the bursa is actually located and what recovery time as well as different surgerical techniques. Many do well after surgery. Just remember to keep your core muscles strong before surgery then recovery in most cases is better. Ask your doctor questions knowing he cannot read our minds its best to ask for different techniques each surgeon is different.
