Hip bursitis

i have had 2 two shots in my hip recently for hip bursitis and neither of them have helped. i had a hip replacement about 10 years. the last 3 days have been miserable and i am wondering if there is a problem with the replacement. it is not feeling the like the normal bursitis pain. i am wondering if maybe i need to have the bursa sack drained or if there is more of a problem. has anyone experienced anything like this? thanks to anyone answering.

Sending you lots of sympathy as that is SO painful. I can’t help answer. I had 1 shot for bursitis, no hip replacement, and did yoga to help - took 6 months to work through the pain, and spin biking helped. I’m not sure if that is what is going on with you so sending you lots of telepathic paracetamol and more!!

Since you have experience knowing what bursitis pain feels like, and since this pain doesn’t feel like that, you may wish to check in with your ortho for a diagnosis. Perhaps the recent pain is related somehow to the recent injections?

My first bursa injections were awesome. Pain was virtually relieved for 2+ months and I was thrilled! The second injections offered minimal relief.

I also have bursitis in both hips and I am 11 weeks post-op THR.

I had left hip done a few years ago and am going for revision soon. I also was told it was bursitis but after several shots its still there. I am also unable to lift my left leg without assistance from my hands. Surgeon thinks revision may help, but won’t know what is causing the problem until he operates and can see the whole thing. I love my new surgeon who doesn’t promise a miracle like the first one did. When I went back to original surgeon he basically told me to live with it. I have faith in new surgeon because he listened and addressed all my concerns. I am hoping for less pain and better movement.
Wish you luck in whatever you do.

thanks for answering. at this point, i can use all the tele and para help i can get. lol

I had a THR in 2006 on my right hip. The appliance is suppose to last (16 yrs). So far all I feel and it doesn’t happen often, is a slight pinch which hurts but goes away once I move my leg. This occurs when getting out of my car.

My left hip now has arthritis. I’ve been living with this for about several years but now its affecting my quality of life. To alleviate the pain until THR surgery I was prescribed Voltaren 1% Gel. This does help relieve some of the pain so that it’s bearable when I walk.

You’ve had your appliance 10 yrs so I am not sure if what I say applies. On my visit my doctor told me and he is correct that the appliance in my right hip is metal to metal. These appliances have been known to wear after time, Metal shaving can enter the blood stream. He ordered lab blood test to rule this out. Fortunately my tests ruled this out. I’ve had cortisone shots in my knee and shoulders for arthritis but not my hip. Injections have to be on target or it can be painful. The hip has thick muscle surrounding the hip bone. I suggest you have your hip reevaluated. Have you had x-rays of the hip? Good luck my friend.
