So, I went to the "hip class" last week, this is not the same as pre op appointment (that is in a few weeks).....this was a really good group meeting where a specialist nurse went through all the useful stuff and answered all sorts of questions...I dont think all areas have this which is a shame as it was an ideal time to ask all sorts of "daft" questions. Even though I was a nurse for many years there have been many changes and also being a patient is quite different from being a nurse!
On a different note I have tried the liquid/foam hair "wash" as something to use before I am let loose over a sink or in a shower...result, very good!
Nice idea to gotto a class I was never offered any tuition, but was Ok, best of luck with the operation, it is better after I assure you. Ian.++
Hi Jane ,

Hi Jane, yes it's a great place to find out more about whats going to happen after your opp. in my hospital it's called *joint school*
Hi Jane,
Greetings from Exeter. we are lucky here, with no TEDS elastic stockings; no staples in wound, just dissolvable stitches and junior asprin, and physios at pre op appt who encourage us to 'go for it', if carefully....
BUT
Exactly how we 'go for it' is confusing, with NO physio classes pre or post operation. So, we find our own path, and I have a great PT at the gym I restarted with at 6 weeks. Still, a hip experienced physio would have been a boon.
So, I envy you your regular physio classes and wish you well with the journey you are starting

The class's was held at the hospital where I am having surgery.....Doncaster Royal Infirmary...so only a few miles away. There were 6 of us and we were each asked to bring someone with us.....a friend or family member so that they would also know the instructions you were being given. We also received our exercise sheet to start before surgery.
I think I am lucky.....there seems to be a lot of information and support...
Hi Jane I too went to a training class before my op 16 days ago and have found it so useful post op. I had to take chair & bed measurements with me and hard a 1 to 1 meeting with occupational health after the training to discuss what aids I would need.all the items were delivered to me 2 days later.I am now 16 days post op and so glad already I had it done even though I have have to do another 10 weeks on crutches. This was all done at Wrightington hospital nor Wigan. Good luck with your op x
What a good idea.. Not done here in Kent xx
