Omg, gym class yesterday, cant walk today, dont want to go back there....please dont make me..... I been doin all my excercises like a gud boy, but knee and lower thigh takin time to strengthen, you're all careful not to overdo it then go gym and cant move next day... whats that all about? Anyone else feel knee not stable / strong enough?
Yours in just about glad i had it doneness. Jay
Very good luck! With physiotherapist to guide you!
Morning Jay,
Know how you feel bud, but no gym classes for me as none been arranged or set up and hospital showing no interest. So, have been doing exercises from forum and net plus walks.....but I do have stiffness and ache in the front and top of thigh which prevent mobility without crutch. Been like it for week but no improvement, so exercises are a ouch !!!. Good luck today an keep the hippie faith
What is Gym club? Is it in the UK? I am planning to join a gym on pensioners rates once I can drive and get there but are there specific classes for hippies?
Just curious....sorry about your pain, Jay. Have a recovery day today and brace yourself for next session. What did you do in the gym club?
I've seen physio a few times but no mention of gym club. I keep trying to do all the exercises even tho they are painful.
I'mhoping that if I keep gritting my teeth & pushing thro the pain it will all be worth while eventually. It's still much better than the pain I had pre-op. Glad I had it done!
Have the same problem Kevin. Top of my thigh is stiff, tight, sore. I keep doing the recommended physio exercises but they don't seem to do to much. I've increased my walking, but I'm afraid of going to a gym right now. Just entered 5 weeks post op and although I'm going down the stiff road I have been able to put down the cane and walk unaided. I just keep icing after each walk, Sure hope this stiffness eventually goes away. But hey I have a new hip and no hip pain anymore which is far better than a stiff thigh
Hi Jason, Nice to have a laugh in the morning sets my day off! You don't say when you had your thr but mine was in October and I wouldn't dare go to the gym. My thigh has been painful since the op. and when I went back I had an xray and they have now booked me in for a knee replacement!!! I have bought a stand for my bicyle so that I can get some exercise in the garden without showing myself up on the road or worse falling off!!! I am also doing all my exercises and have found the ones for the knee have stopped the pain in the thigh, just pressing your knee down whilst lying down and lifting the foot up whilst having a towel or pillow under the knee. Hope this helps, good luck but miss the gym!!
Valerie
My philosophy is if it hurts don't do it. Keep walking, do gentle exercise and forget the gym until at least 6 months. Feel the burn, is no longer the vogue. Muscle strength will come back eventually. Be patient and good luck.
Hmmm, just jelos of your class, zero physio support here.....
First time back in gym today, very gentle, but found hamstrings very tight. found the not-operated knee more painful than operated knee!
hope a gin and tonic helps you recover...I've got to get a letter from the hospital physio at sign off in two weeks time, yes 8 weeks not 6, before personal training restarts.
Also looking for a nordic pole walking class!
Bye
Mic

Hi all, strange the variation in after care, you'd think everyone would need some sort of physio
. My op done on nhs at rugby st cross, got a refferal to physio at george elliot as closer to home, one apt one on one,( tho i understand more if required) and i was given class to attend. Class is once a week by two physios with up to 10 people, varying ages and progressions, consists of cuicuit of balance boards, step over hurdles, low intensity hydraulic walking m/c , cross trainer- low resistance, balance on one leg at a time on tramplesteam between bars to grab on
nothing really fancy but physios watch everyone and make sure you do it right for you but push you abit to. Good really, but ache making and knackerin
Yours in yay no hip pain anymoreidness Jay ps a tot of rum before bed helps:D
Hi barbara,
Yeah in uk, its just a couple of physios watchin a bunch of hippies try to do various excercises!:D more detail on other answer
As per long post here, don't do much more than you can do at home, just got physio watching and pushing you, cheers ,keepin the faith matey
Thanks Mary, they do watch you but on this occasion i think the only thing hr said to me was" you've been before haven't you ?...so you know the drill"
Nordic pole dancing?
whats goin on there then:D
Seriously tho i get de gyp from non op side, guess its all about weight distribution. I like a rum myself
All the best take it steady in gym
.jay
Hi Valerie, op was 9th march 5 weeks now, started hip class at 3 weeks, yeah i think your right about the towel exercise, usually helps even in short term. I think pain mostly due to new stance, plus being wrentched around on operating table
All the best ,Jay.
Ps, i can manage to ride static bike fine as well feels good in fact after
