I have had my preassement for my hip op how long do I have to wait for joint clinic and my op
It totally depends where you are maureen, your health authority list and how fit you are. I am in North Wales, from consultation to op was 7 weeks, everything moved pretty quickly. After joint school I had a validation class where the surgeon and I both signed the consent form, swabs were taken to test for infection and could ask the surgeon any last minute questions.
Hi Maureen
I am presuming by pre-assessment you mean the check up you get to make sure you are fit to withstand the operation and not be a risk to yourself or others. This will usually mean having a series of tests for blood pressure, height, weight ,temperature etc. You will also probably have swabs taken from a couple of areas to check whether you are a carrier of MRSA.
When I had my op last November(Nottingham UK) the pre-assessment was done in October. My understanding was that they normally only run a pre-assessment when the operation date is already known and it is run nwithin 30 days or so of the operation date.
I seem to remember being told that if for some reason the op was cancelled then I would need a new pre-assessment as they could not rely on data that was more than 30 days old.
From your post I get the impression that you have not been given a date for your op so I’m just wondering why they have done a pre-assessment.
I guess different Hospital Trusts may have different regimes but hopefully you will get a date soon
i live in south Wales i dont think it will be before Xmas
I was wondering why they did my preassement and no date for op I have been reading other post and they can use the pre op assement for up to 12 weeks but I don’t know for sure has anyone else had this and how long did they wait for joint clinches I haven’t had that
