Hip pain after total hip replacement

I had an anterior approach total hip right hip replacement five years ago. For about two months now I am having some weakness and a little pain   I go to see my surgeon in a week for five year check up

has anyone out there had problems several years after

So sorry you are having these issues

Best of luck with your doctor

Did you hurt yourself exercising ? have you stayed active? Anyway best of luck we're all rooting for you

I had total knee and hip replacement 9 months ago I don't use a walker or cane anymore so why do I still limp everything was on the right side

No but I notice ever since my hip surgery if I drive more then an hour I hurt so bad on the entire lower side on the right where the hip was replaced. I haven't been doing a lot of exercise but I climb the stairs several times a day and my normal everyday chores. I am hoping it is okay. You wouldn't think just in five years it would go bad.  I do have degeneration in my lumbar area and my back has been hurting a lot lately. It may be stemming from the back pain. I sure wouldn't want to have yo have it taken out and redone. My surgeon was excellent.

I don't know why that would be. I have done excellent. I had the anterior approach on right hip. Doctor was excellent   I have degeneration in the lumbar area and my back has been hurting a lot recently. My hip problems may be from that.  I sure don't want to have to have it redone  I think I need to start an exercise program again. Could be that I am not doing enough exercise. Hope you are better.

Pam it's really tough to compare our situations. Everybody is in a different stage etc. etc. while I am only eight weeks out I recently had a period of six days where I didn't see a therapist and I noticed my hip became/felt weaker and I had more pain. My doctor said that I will need to stay active because inactivity leads to more issues with hips then staying active. However, like you, during my six days, I was active and doing some chores that stressed my hip in different ways - I thought these were good exercises for my hip.

Five years out or nine weeks out I think we all need to adhere to some of the exercises that are specific for our hips. It's our lifestyle.

You're only a week away from your doctor so relax if you can. I'm sure you'll have some good answers and approaches soon. Please keep us informed

Limping is to do with the butt muscles not being strong enough. When we limp we don't strengthen them but protect them and allow them to stay weak.

There's some really good YouTube videos on learning to walk properly. Heel to toe, standing upright, shoulders back and butt tightened. It's hard work!

Thank you. I am hoping I just need to start doing strengthing exercises to help it. I feel better from what you have said.

Thank you.  I will check those out.

Hi Pam,

What kind of pain is it?  You are 5 years ahead of me so I can't help you here -

happy New year and let us know the outcome of your doctor's appointment...

Some stiffness and some pain.  I am hoping I just need to exercise more. Sure don't want a second surgery.
