Hip pain in other hip

Hi had right hip replacement in November 15 after suffering with arthritis for 4 yrs, everything alright but now suffering with pain in left leg . can't believe it happening again . anybody else had same problem.

Hi Diane I am  also 7 weeks post op and have more pain in my good leg am really hoping it's due to the op and will improve .

It could be because you are using the other leg more now, since you can't put as much weight on the surgical leg, and depending more on the "good" leg.  Just a thought.

Let's hope so Mary don't want to go through it all again xx

Hope so Sam

I am 5 weeks post op on my right hip, this follows having the left hip done 14 months previous.

I was fine for about 6 months before pain in right hip.

If you ado have the same problem it's best to get it done.

Goos luck

Hi Diane , I was told 4 years ago I had arthritis in both hips and my right hip was the first to get worse, I had a right hip replacement 7 weeks ago however last year I started to get a lot of pain in my left leg and eventually prior to my op I couldn't walk on either leg at all. However since op I had no pain in my right leg at all but a lot of pain in my left leg. My consultant says its not bad enough to operate on yet so is arranging more xrays and scans of that leg to try to find out why I have so much pain in it.

Hi John.

Yours is a mirror image of my situation😊

LTHR last feb..6months later severe pain in right hip.

Had a RTHR 5 wks ago.

As others have said it's depressing finding you have to go through hip replacement a second time, although I know folks who've due to revision surgery have had 3 operations, which must be tough.

But after a painful/sleepless 4weeks I'm just starting to turn the corner and in glad I went through with the 2nd op.

Thats not to say I would ever go through it again.

Ive got a real aversion to hospitals now.

Hi,

Happening to me. When I had my X-rays for my left hip which was replaced 11 days ago, they also took one for my right which shows it deteriorating slowly and recently starting to experience pains similar to the ones I first felt for my left. Looks like a TRH replace in the near future. Gulp.....again.

Fingers crossed for you that you can avoid a second op.

On my first x-ray my left hip looked okay.  Had the right one done 13 weeks ago but now experiencing some pain in my left groin and hope this is due to more use of my left leg while the other healing.  That's what I'm hoping anyway and keeping my fingers crossed and seeing how it goes on.

Wow, just put almost the same exact statement on my facebook support group for hips......  i am almost 9 weeks post op also and my operated leg feels fabulous, while my "good" leg feels....well..... blah.  groin, thigh and back of knee ache and feel rather stiff.  I am taking advil and lightly exercising it hoping to improve situation.  surgeon told me i need that hip done too due to arthritis but wants me to hold off because of my age.  well....dont qite know if that will happen.  Wishing you well diane....  GInny USA NJ

Hi, I am presuming you meant November 14 as we haven't reached it yet, or 15th November, but whichever, I have a similar problem, I had my THR on the right hip in October and was left with one leg longer than the other and the thigh muscle in the right leg is hurting all the time espectially when walking. I am taking Naproxen 3 times a day which helps a bit but not when walking the dog.  I have had to have a uplift in my left heel to level my legs but the pain is still there.  Going for my check up on the 24th March so will ask the surgeon what his opinion is.  Will put it on the discussions.

Hope yours gets better soon, Valerie

Hi Diane,

Yes it is common. I thought of it this way, at least it did not happen to both at the same time! I say this because I needed one leg to be the strong, one to lean on, while the surgery leg was weak.

Hope it goes smoothly with your next surgery. And after that surgery, luckily you will have no more hips to worry about!

Take care and keep us in the loop. We like nothing more than to support and encourage each other.
