Hip pain

Can anyone give me advise to help with hip pain.the pain is down my leg around hip area and into my groin.it's difficult to walk owing to pain. I am on strong pain killers but worse of all I can't trying to sleep at night I can't lay on on my hip and still get throbbing ache feeling down the outside of my leg.my gp sent me for xray,I had to wait 5 weeks for thd results.after over months of pain

I'm going for a corticosteroids under scan on Monday.

I feel I should be seeing a specialist, how long will I find out if the injection as worked.

.

Have you had hip replacement or are you waiting

They only work temporary some very three wks without pain and some don't have relief of their pain. best of luck to u

Hi Holly

Sorry you are in so much pain

I can only suggest that you go back to your GP and demand to see an orthopedic surgeon. You will have to explain howe this is affecting your life and the pain is unbearable. You onbly get listened to if you shout loud enough so don't take  the lets see hoew the injection works first line. Make sure you are firm and put your request across so your GP understands. The injections can work straight away. But I know of others where it hasn't lasted very long or hasn't worked at all.

So you have to really get your pouint across to your GP and demand what you want.

I hope you gfet listned too.x

Hi Holly thats crazy to wait 5 weeks for an Xray result, you need a thorough diagnosis and you need it quick....Go back and politely ask for a result that you badly need, sounds like you hips are gone...Ian.

As far as the pain on the outside of your leg. Does the pain start at your hip and end at the knee? Can you take your fingers and trace the path of the pain with your fingers, on the outside of your leg. Or is it more of a generalized pain, hurts all over?

Not had hip replacement

I can press on the area and it's painful my knee don't hurt.I've tried pain killing gels and heat pads but I don't help.

I am going bk to my gp after the injection.

I thought 5 weeks was a long time to wait for xray but I was getting told the hospital was behind. I've no life at all and feel really fed up.thank you ..holly

Hi Holly ...

welcome to this wonderful forum of Hippies, and hippies to be ...

I am sorry to read that you are in so much pain ...

I agree with the others that it seems ridiculous that you have to wait 5 weeks to get xray results ... Back logged or not -

Make that phone call to your GP like Hailea said and tell him/her about your pain - No one needs to suffer like this -

take care and I hope you get help soon -

warm hug

Hi Holly, you need to get to grips with your GP like the others have said,Iwas abroad for 3 months having various trips to Doctors etc, getting pain killers that not always agreed with me,you need a scan and get a good Surgeon, good luck Michael.

Hi Holly, it seems that many of us have to go through this months and months of waiting. My journey to a hip replacement at the end of June 15 started in June 14. I too had no answers and constant pain. I waited months between appointments and got fobbed off with steroid injections which didn't work for me.

I was at desparation point when I finally had MRI scans and saw a consultant who diagnosed arthritis in both hips and lower back.

I have no idea why they take so long but you have to fight and keep going back to your GP.

They seem to give you the steroids first to see if that manages the pain but you will still need to get answers to find out what is going on.

Your pain sounds identical to mine ( but that doesn't mean that it is arthritis). I would suggest trying various arrangements of pillows at night. Make sure you have good pain relief and then wedge pillows between your legs/behind your back so you are not resting on nerves etc.

I am so sorry, it really is a miserable time until diagnosis

Hi,just want to say I agree with everything that you say Kate, when it gets to pain  killer stage be sure you try different ones that suit you,Best Wishes Michael

Thanks you for answers you don't feel alone when you know people have the same problems

I will try pillows ..holly

Thank you

My first lasted four weeks second never touched but wish had gone with consultant and not had second cause would have had hip replacement quicker

Holly thanks for answering. I asked what I hoped was a very specific question about exactly where your pain is. The reason I asked about, "does it (pain) start at your hip, run down the outside of your leg to the knee, and can you trace the path of the pain" is because I was wondering if you didn't also have Tendonitis of the IT Band in addition to having a bad hip.

In in fact my Tendonitis ( which turned into tendonosis) of the IT Band was more painful and more debilitating than my bad hip. i'm sorry but I really couldn't tell from your answer if this was a possibility for you as well. You may want to Google Tendonitis of the IT Band, do let me know if I can help you further.

Agree Georgina - I was in denial after the first injection which only lasted 3 weeks. My surgeon suggested hip replacement but I said I would try another injection. I wish I had gone for THR straight away as the second injection had no effect

If I have to have my left leg done at some point I wouldn't even bother with injections - I would get the THR done

Hi Holly

to cut a long story short my dr insisted my pain was from my back. I ended up paying for a private Mri scan which revealed oa in my right hip that needed surgery. After 8 years of pain I am 8 weeks post op and very happy.

Good luck

Carol 😄 Xx

Dear Holly, the injection will ease your pain but do try Nordic Walking too. I so wish I had done this before I opted for a total hip replacement. It will build up the muscle to help support your hip. The pain you discuss is referred pain from the arthritic hip; I agree it is especially bad at night.

Good luck

Thank you for your advise.

4 years a go I had a nerve stimulator fitted in my spine, after trying so many pain killers from the pain clinic it was decided that I should have one fitted.it works fantastic on my right leg.I have a remote that i place on the site of an internal battery and if really helps with the pain, the problem is its my left hip thats so bad and the nerve stimulator does not reach over to my left side,

I know it's my hip because it's a different from my right side.

I can control my right side, but my hip on my left side is really getting me down.I keep on walking and little exercise to keep me going.I use heat pads , gels, tens machine which is difficult to set upand find the right place.

I'm so glad I asked advice and I will now push to see a specialist ..holly
