Hi i work in the office sitting down, can you go back to work after you 1 hip operation to the office? the dr said i should have enought strengh after 2 weeks to put all the weight in that hip
The second one is bad but is, like the first one a year ago so i guess i have a year to begin with.,
I have worked in my home sitting on the computer as I make reservations for a tourism business and so have been able to manage that ok, but also am at home, so have the luxury of taking a break from sitting. It is now 2 and a half weeks since my surgery. I suppose the best thing is to talk to your supervisor and perhaps you can start out at a few hours to see how you do. If the doctor says you can put full weight on the operated hip, then you should be able to, dependent on the type of prosthesis from what I understand. I was suppose to walk from the very first so used a walker then a cane, now not needing one so much, but use it when needed. Walking does help solidify the new joint and is important to heal from within all that has been cut during the surgery. Wishing you well on your recovery, susan
Hi. I work in a school office and have been given medical certificate for 6 weeks! My physio said 6 weeks too. I hope to go in for a while before 6 weeks to do a phased return and see how it goes. I am 9 days post op and def feel nowhere near ready although doing really well. Two weeks seems pushing it. Suppose you maybe try and see. Take care x
I also work in an office - was told by the physio at my pre-op assessment to not even think about going back to work before 6 weeks - priority was to look after myself, rest and excercise. I have put work before my health before (and delayed this op because of work). This time I intend to listen to the advise given - and have told my employers I will be off for at least 6 weeks.
As I worl fo myself, office based in home I wads working at my computer 7 days after the op. However if I needed a rest I would lie down for a short while. Just a case of what you are comfy with
I won't be returning to my office job for at least 6 weeks. It's not so much the work rather getting there. I want to be 100% before I face the madness of Londons rush hour!

It bothers me that your doctor expects you to be back to normal in 2 weeks. Seems impossible. Be careful moi, you live in your body, not you doctor.

I agree with others, only 2 weeks off after a hip replacement. I can see if it was a tonsillectomy or something more simple, but pressuring someone into thinking they can work in two weeks is absurd. Perhaps you can talk to your doctor again and get a more reasonable amount of time off before going back to work. You will still be on pain meds and anticoagulants. Do they expect you to take the elevated toilet seat to work? Just kidding. Even if doing a desk type job, sitting for hours is not ideal either for your recovery. Most jobs allow at least 6-8 weeks time after an abdominal surgery, you had a big surgery and that should be taken into account. Hopefully, there is a happy medium that will work for you and your employer. Good luck with advocating for yourself!!!
Hi
Two weeks does seem a very short time.
I'm thinking about the 90 degree angle.....can you work and not break that? You wont twist or bend?
Also you need to be moving........sitting is not ideal.....forlong periods. Will you be able to get up and walk around when you need to?
Be careful

well yes i will be able to keep the 90 degree angle, and yes i can stand every time i want, i can even work part of the day standing up
Hi Moi
Two weeks is far to soon, you will only just had your dressings off by that time, risk of infection etc and you will still be injecting yourself with the blood thinners, I work out on the community so it was a no no for me until proper fit, but I think 6-8 weeks is about the right amount of time also there is the question of the raised toilet seat etc as an earlier hippy mentioned this is a definate consideration, take your time Moi good luck
Regards Vicki 😃
Hi
That sounds as if it is "doable" then Good luck
