Hi., I hada hip replacement done when I was 17, I have had the same hip replacement since I was 27. I am now 60. I'm thinking that it may be giving out. Can they do a hip replacement on this same hip? Thanks!
They call it revision..
you mean you have the same implant from age 27 to 60? Incredible!
No I was 17... Yes Incredible!
Very lucky and a very good surgeon. I had both hips replaced 10 months apart, the second just 13 weeks ago. I sure hope mine will last as long as yours.
And to answer your question, yes they do hip revision on same hip to replace the old or ineffective implant with a new one. I read that they usually do the same type procedure the original implant was done - either posterior or anterior. Yours is most likely posterior.
That implant must be near the record and for most people yes they can do revisions. They are bigger ops than the first and statistically do not last as long although 2 friends are over 15 years on their revision prosthesis. So I would ask your GP for a referral to a surgeon who is good at revision surgery, try to remember as much as you can about the first op and I hope your second goes as well.
Amazing ..hope mine lasts that long...although I would the be over 100!!
..and yes I know people who have had 2 succesful revisions....
Hello 70sGirlCynthia ,
I'm 26 year's old now and I had THR 4 weeks ago. I hope mine last as long as yours. Doctor promised minimum of 20 years.if careful.
Were you very careful when you were my age? I'm pretty clumsy.
I hope your revision will go very well x
What is posterior and anterior? Probably dum question but its been a long long time since i've had to deal with any total hip replacement stuff. My hip has gottan worse in the last 5 days.
I dance, swim, hike on mild hikes. clean house go to the beach just do what I feel like doing. Its lastd me a long time. At the time I had mine replaced I was the youngest to get this done. I was up and walking without any help in 4 days. I had an awesome surgeon. He was killed in an automobilewreck a few years back. He had just retired.
one from the side...posterior..the most common, and anterior from the front..presume thats what it is anyway...anterior seems to have a faster recovery if you follow some of the other threads but mine was down the outside and no probs....
I'm sorry to hear about your surgeon. I have very good one too. He's top in London and top in dealing with young people hips. I didn't feel that strong to walk on my own after 4 days, it was pretty bad two weeks for me after.
