Hip replacement, infection

Had right hip replaced 10 months ago, 4 months ago  noticed the incission had an area that was bulged out and inflamed looking, was put on antibiotics seemed to clear it up, when finished the antibiotics it came back, anyway had a sonograph today it showed a pocket of infection near the bone, not in hip joint. I feel great no pain or fever, Surgeon is going back in to clear this out. Has anyone had this problem?

Not personally it is relatively uncommon. However as I work in a hospital microbiology lab I have dealt with samples from such infections

Jeez so sorry to read your post, after ten months you would expect to be completely clear. Are you in pain even?

I haven't experience of this, do you know what they intend to do to fix it ? How do they clear it out? Not the news you wanted to hear.

Just wanted to post to give you hugs and support. X

No, but I know my surgeon said any infection in my body could go to my hip...Have you been sick, or to the dentist lately????

So sorry to hear about this Shelby and I hope the operation will clear the infection. I havent had experience of this but thank you for posting as it would be interesting to hear why this has happened. Loral made a good point about whether you had had any other infection?

I was advised to tell my dentist that Id had a hip operation if I had to have any dental work as I would need antibiotics beforehand.

Glad you are not in pain, but let us know how you are getting on.

Linnet x

Please share are if you feel you can as it will help others that may have this happen.
