on the 14th i have been told to remove my dressing. i have been told that stitches will have dissolved by then. Apparently they dont change dressings these days. I have been managing fine, quite a fit 75 year old!! I am just a little appresenve about this. any tips?
Hi Marlene when my dressing came off the practice nurse gave me some dressingshome with me as i found my clothes rubed against my wound i used them for a week or so im now using bio oil and it is helping wonderfully good luck.
Hi Marlene sorry no tips for you as I had 26 metal staples an district nurse came to take them out . Sure all will be well . Good luck for a full recovery . Let us know how it goes

Hi Marlene, I had dissolvable stitches inside and glue outside, just one waterproof dressing put on at time of surgery removed 2 weeks later, didn't hurt at all and wound completely healed, since air getting to it just a neat line now. Sounds like you are recovering well so don't be apprehensive, its a doddle, you'll see. Take care
Hi Christine i was exactly the same procedure as you i am now 8 weeks post op and what a difference it feels looking forward to springtime.
Although my incision was glued, I can still relate to your feelings of apprehension. They did give me a few extra to change myself but they were so sticky around the edges it hurt like crazy pulling them off. In fact I persuaded my surgeon take my final dressing off at my two week check up. It will be ok, I promise.

I'm 7 weeks post op today, but went out yesterday drive 89 miles and through city twice and walked over the heath by the sea quite a long way, I took my chair (fold up lol) so I sat down when I needs to and was out all afternoon. I loved it.
Hi Christine how are you managing with driving i started about 2 weeks ago but taking it gentlyi find if ive done to much in the one day i struggle to drive next day although everyone is different.
Greetings Marlene, my steering had medication embedded in it to prevent infection and for healing.
This procedure is also knew to me.dressing changed were daily I'm the past.
It's good to have medication in the bandages.

The District Nurse came to me and took the dressing off and removed the stera strips, as I was glued not stitched. However if the dressing feels stuck tight, then dab the edges of it with some warm water and it will peel off easily. If the stitches have not dissolved properly, then I would put another dressing on it for a few days in case they catch on your clothes. Although this should not be necessary after 14 days. This is presuming they gave you an extra dressing at hospital to bring home with you. If not, the chemist should have some in stock if you ask. Hope all goes well with it.

My surgeon doesnt like the idea of changing dressings incase of infection .....Mine was seeping one time and the district nurse put another one on top of it and warned me what to look out for.
She took tnhe staples out and the dressing of eventually

Hi Christine, I thought as soon as consultant told me I could drive, I'd be straight out there but I live in the city by a busy main road and decided I would wait until it was quieter before I ventured out just in case, I was waiting for a phone call from work the first 2 days I was going, so couldn't go, but the third day I went to the hairdressers, chemist, post office and took my wheelchair back, so all round the city, I wanted to stay out but felt I should go home and rest then go out again another day which I did, my operated leg was hurting but I imagine it was using muscles I hadn't used post op, the next day accompanied i drove 40 miles there and 40 miles back out of the city and had no trouble at all. I'm 7 weeks post op so feel confident with my driving now. I definitely think it depends where you are driving and which hip has been operated on as if its your right hip you have got more sideways movements and if you are driving in the country you will not have to change from accelerate to brake as often as in town. I definitely believe your body tells you when you're able to do things and then you have to take it slowly. I've overdone it today sorting and moving things and now my groin hurts so I'm a bit annoyed with myself but I think this is the dangerous period when you think you can do everything until you do it and then realise whoops you shouldn't have done that. Its so easy.
sometimes it takes a lot longer for the stitches to dissolve and you can feel them pulling! I didnt like my wound left open until it had healed really well and I put my own waterproof dressings on it
