Hip replacement postponed

I already had my right THR schduled for June 19th. Because I was concerned with periodontal disease called surgeons office. We both decided to postpone until fixed before proceeding. Needless to say I have been in severe pain and am worrying that I will be to weak by the time the periodontist is finshed. Anyone else have to postpone? Anything I can do to stay strong? I have been very depressed and have been staying in bed way to much. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry to hear your had to postpone your surgery and are experiencing a lot of pain. I myself had to choose between taking care of  and unable to continue working that I had no choice but to go ahead with the surgery on June 21st. The only thing I can recommend is possibly taking stronger pain meds, I started taking tramadol prior to surgery which helped quite a bit...also not sure how long you had to postpone for but time does fly and before you know it you will have your surgery and hopefully be pain free

I can't think of any way to get stronger when you are in severe pain. You just have to get through the waiting and have the surgery. Even if you are a bit weaker, it'll be all right. I don't see how you could be "too weak" for surgery. People who are so debilitated that they have to use wheelchairs for lengths of time before surgery have it done and recover just fine. Wishing you the best, and so sorry for all of your pain, rtb!

dear rtb,

warm welcome to the best hippies forum where personal experiences and stories are shared ..

what is the prognosis / treatment plan you are on?

I had a tooth pulled before hip surgery and had to wait for about 6-8 weeks to make sure I had no infection (from tooth) --- you don't want to risk any infection with new joint ...

don't worry about being too weak for surgery ...I am with AnnieK here ...

are you on any pain medication right now ?

It is normal to feel depressed at times, darling - and it is okay - just accept that this is how you feel right now and it just sucks .... I wish I had the words or some advice to make it better for you ...

Come here and share any time you want, okay ... this is a wonderful group of people who understand, support and empathize as they (we) have gone through it all - no one can really understand what we are going through, or what the pain feels like, or the moments of despair ...you are not alone anymore

big warm hug
