Hip replacement pre op

FAILED PRE OP BECAUSE ECG SHOWED VENTRICULAR ECTOPICS.  SAW CARDIOLOGIST WHO SAYS THIS IS  COMMON - NO SYMPTOMS NO TREAMENT. IS THIS NOW A PROBLEM FOR SURGERY? ANYONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM?

REGARDS

Will be very interested in the responses to this - I'm in the same position! Awaiting outcome of heart tests (due to ECG showing ventricular ectopics...), but was told by the hip surgeon that it shouldn't affect having the op - they simply need to know heart diagnosis in order to understand what's happening to you when having the hip op...

Not sure what that is but I have something called PAF Pariximol Atrial Fibrilation which was first picked up during a pre op for a hernia repair a few years ago. Means at times my heart beats really fast ( like 150-200 instead of normal 70's) for most part I am totally unaware of it ( thankfully) I am on a lot of meds because of it including riveroxibane ( blood thinner) it's not life threatening and in my case has no underlying cause but I had an episode during my ore op for my THR and although I had been discharged by my cardiologist I had to go back and get a full report my surgery went ahead but they said if I had an episode on the morning if my surgery they would cancel but the whole thing delayed my surgery by about 6 months oh and it meant I could not have a spinal block but had to have a GA instead

Hi, thanks for your reply. My cardiologist has written to hip surgeon stating "surgery does not need to be deferred" before echocardiogram next year.   Have another pre op booked shortly.  What do I do if hip surgeon is still not happy?  feel a bit like saying lets forget it.  Hospital 100 miles away and have been waiting over 12 months.

Regards

You have to hang in there don't give up your hip problems won't ho away regardless of your heart, get the reports they need just to be sure it's safe to go ahead. Said elsewhere that u was lucky enough to be under the royal national orthapedic hospital which was great for my hip but nor for my heart as its a specialist hospital they have no cardiologists tjere if dime goes wrong. But I was told that witj hip surgery your blood pressure drops ( normal) but an episode of PAF will also make your blood pressure drop aa does a spinal block so in my case it could have been a triple whammy in the blood pressure stakes which is why I had to have the GA

Are they not able to do an echocardiogram before that to give hip surgeon more security. They sent me for one on the same day I saw the consultant at Charing X... Hope you get something sorted - but don't give up :-)
