3 weeks today since my THR. Was doing really well (use cane lightly, able to bear full weight on operated side), barely a limp until 5 days ago.
feel like I'm back to day 3. Walking labored, unable to put full weight on operated leg, limping, and putting so much weight on cane my hand and wrist hurt. Back to walker. Has this happened to anyone else? Thinking of just laying low for 2-3 days.
Am week 7 post op, I have been walking around without crutches since week five still have slight limp but pain free until today, felt pain shooting down my leg, couldn't fully weight bear. I have been overdoing it back to using one crutch today, see how it goes. That could be whats happened to you Jilliekt, have plenty of rest, one day at a time.
Hi Jillie
I am 3 weeks post op too and today I felt as if I had taken a step back
Use one crutch round house but today operated leg painful to weight bear
I think some days we do not realise how much we have done and our body is telling us hey, slow down
Tomorrow I shall rest up a bit We really do have to listen to what our bodies are telling us
A hip op can be up to a year to fully recover and I think we expect to be back to normal within weeks
Take your time and pull back on the reins when you need to
Kind wishes
Linda xx
Hi jilliekt
What at have you been doing the last two days before today?
carol
Going down steps, the doorbell rang, and without thinking, I pivoted around and went up 5 steps, alternating legs, one leg, over the othe. Previously, I was only stepping up with good leg, with other leg passive. Didn't hurt at the time, but since then, cannot bear full weight. I'm frustrated and upset
Hi Linda
i agree with all you say
the trouble is for me I see so many things that want doing, it's hard to sit back.
I dont want to do too much, but want to push on without pushing too hard. Troublei is, no one really tells you. Don't see Physio for the first time since op until 8th. So I rely on all you hippies out there to advise. It's great. Thank you
Sounds like you've been overdoing it. My family's attitude sometimes is no pain no gain
they should read this site!
So give yoursef a break. Do less, or better still nothing.
Hope we you have a goo night

So annoying.
That's the danger now.
The more I recover the more I do and i don't alwys use the stick because I forget. Literally just walk off without it
its automatic actions/reactions that are the worst (by the way does it , or did it hurt your hip when you sneezed)?
There is nothing worse than being cross with ourselves.
Are you in a position wher you can do nothing tomorrow?
take cre

Hi Carol
Hope you had a goodish night!
Had a nice doze on settee for an hour and 2 + 1 hours in bed
I agree with you, I look around house and could scream at all the things that want doing. Hubbie is brilliant but II hate having to ask don't you? It's just the silly little things that you do without a second thought and now cannot do.
I just shut my eyes and think, well would I rather be how I was before and of course the answer is NO.
i sometimes forget I have had an op and want to walk off- still feel a it strange with no crutches but read a post where someone said put heel down first and then ball of foot when walking and strangely enough you get a normal gait with no limp.
thank goodness for this site - where would we get all this information from
otherwise?

Morning Jillie
i am 4 weeks post op today and had the same thing happen to me last week. I actually wondered if I'd done some damage. Decided to go back onto regular basic exercises and the normal, stronger painkillers regularly. Two days and I was back on track. Take it easy and take the pills. Xx
The consultant here is old school and he says stay on the crutches for 6 weeks. He could be right but I know it must be hard when things need doing around the house. Take it easy now for a few days. There's an older man in this ward. Had his second done and he said to me "be six months before you're back to yourself" the voice of experience.
Hi Jillie ... the pivoting might have caused this little set back --- so easy to do, right? I have done it too ... not being mindful and all that --- how great are our bodies to actually give us a warning .... no pain no gain is NOT working for THR people ... Pain = STOP doing what you are doing !!
LOL on pain in hand and wrist !!! I was holding on to the handles of my walker as if my life depended on it - same with cane --- !!!!
be gentle with your self today --- take baby steps -
big hug and take it easy ....
Yes pansy that's what phsio said here. She said I've got so used of walking with knee locked I need to put heel down first. My affirmation is " I am happily dependant for the duration of my recovery"
Hi Jillie I have not had any problems with my right leg, except swelling that went down in 10 days, no pain either and none in my right knee either, and that was very painful so bad that I thought I had also done my knee in, but I go out every other day, but then my deterierating left hip is keeping in, so just take it easier Id say, and keep on top of the painkillers, I am a strong bloke with quite big legs aged 54.
Kind regards Ian.
