Hip replacement revision

I had my THR last August.  Because the wrong size was put in, I have an 1-1/2 inch (4+ cm) LLD.  I'm going to a different surgeon who uses a different supplier and will either revise or replace my prosthesis, depending on what he finds when he gets in there.  Not looking forward to going through this again, but I am so tired of this length discrepancy.  It's affected just about every muscle in my body, and I'm in a lot of pain.  I'm worn out just walking through my house.

God that's awfull, I can honestly say that my surgeon was brill and regarding leg length I don't have a problem, I hope you get it sorted. Even though I still struggle with pain it's nothing to before op xx

Do you have  the date yet?  Plse keep your posts coming in during and after. You'll be forearmed this time (that typed as fire armed!) you won't recognise yourself but do you have plenty of physio lined up to rebuild and re calibrate your whole skeleton and musculature.... Ask if you can keep what the surgeon removes. I wished I'd asked for my removed femur to see if and good bone was taken to accommodate an oversized prosthesis. That would be contra health and safety no doubt!

Next Wednesday is my surgery date.  After three days in the hospital, I will go to a skilled nursing facility for probably two weeks.  I'll rehab there and will do physical therapy on a daily basis.  I live alone, and I won't be able to handle anything by myself.  After I get home, I'll have a physical therapist come to my house three times a week.

Brilliant idea about keeping what he takes out!  Thanks for that!

Can I ask do Yu have private medical care and how old are you. We don't have physio stuff we just get sent home with so this do that but then again this is the uk

I'm 66, and yes I have Medicare, which just about all private citizens get when they turn 65.  I also have an excellent secondary private medical insurance that I have through my employer that I have after I retired after 35+ years with them.  I'm blessed.

Well you've got a great safety net once you're discharged. That should help,  being composed, calm, and reduce your stress levels. Sounds good. Keep positive.

Hi lynnsfave,

I am with you in spirit. Next month I have my revision scheduled and I too dread it, but staying the same hurts worse than the pain the revision will cause, at least I hope so. My surgeon's mistakes/negligence has taken away life as I knew it. Sounds like you have suffered greatly and I hope your revision brings balance back into your life.

My best to you!

Dawn

Thank you Dawn.  I appreciate your thoughts.  I too will be glad the pain is gone.  I'm soooooo tired of it!

Yes, I am blessed to have such good insurance coverage.  I don't have to worry about some of the things it appears patients in the UK have to deal with.
