Hi...Im new to this website and am 6 weeks post op for my right hip replacement surgery. I still have pain from the incision area and still have to walk wih a cane asI cannot put full weight on this side. How long have some of you had pain before feeling normal again?
Hi and welcome
Expect loads of replies because this site is so helpful. Re the pain it is probably the muscle and tendons repairing themselves. You Will probably have a lot of stiffness in the area as well
I'm 11 weeks possible and still have a little bit of pain and stiffness. It helps to do the exercises and as much walking that you can do with a crutch. It will get better but if it doesn't talk to your surgeon
Hope this helps
Hi Ricdon
welcome to the forum
have you had your 6 week check yet?
is your scar red or oozing anything?
did you have stitches / staples and have they been removed yet?
have you possibly been overdoing it and done more than you should be?
Welcome,
Don't be too quick to discard your cane. Surgeons normally recommend that you keep a crutch or Cane until all signs of a limp has gone. As well, keep on the pain killers until all the pain has gone.
i'm a week ahead of you and still use one cane outside the house but don't bother inside. It does get better all the time.

I only started going without sticks at ten weeks, at which point i have had to have another operation to try to correct the first one.
What type of incision did you have? Front, rear or lateral? Os the pain from the scar or muscles (like the Front of Thigh pain?)

A few months for me,still have niggles a year later.6 weeks is still so early but do the exercises and don't rush yourself,if it hurts stop..Lose the limp lose the stick...Good Luck and it does get easier
Hi there - I am five weeks and still use one crutch - also scar is still very tender. I can't think a week makes a huge difference so we are more or less the same. I think we are a few months away from from completely normal - if your definition is that of someone completely well, although we will get better each week. It is a slow recovery that is for sure - the only thing I would be slightly concerned about is the weight bearing - as I can do this although not for a long stretch, but we may differ wildly in terms of size and weight etc. Have you tried? It might be a confidence issue.
I hope you are okay. It is a slow road but we all get there
Hi
Im 6 weeks po as well and I've got 2 sticks, still have some pain from the incision area so think it's quite normal! I feel it's taking so long to recover, however have been told by my physio that it is normal and not unusual. I don't have my consultant appointment for another 4 weeks due to him being on holiday, by that time will be 10 weeks post op so I hope it's all as it should be😃
Good luck with your recovery ......I know I thought by 6 weeks I would be down to 1 stick ......I guess I just have to be patient. .....😃
Once again Rose, huge differences in weight bearing - I was weight bearing on day one, both times round 😉

Hi Ricdon,
Warm welcome to our family -
What kind of pain is it ? Scar/incision area remain sensitive to the touch for me and at times a little stab ... I massage around the area and that seems to help - it is more feeling the presence than real pain -
All part of the healing process, as long as it is not swollen or red or if you have a fever -
Not sure what feeling "normal" is anymore since I have been "not normal"for perhaps years ...
All is well - How are you doing otherwise?
big warm hug

not yet...I go this thursday
